Hi! I have a dilema hoping to get some guidance or good responses! I currently have a red bitch 2 1/2 years old. She is a Champion and just recently started her "Special' career with a bang!!! In just three weekends she holds 3 group placings and a BEST IN SHOW! Unfortunately, a parting of the ways took place between our handler and sponsor/backer. Given that I am new to the Doberman community I felt the need to network. I am seeking a breeder or anyone interested in sponsoring and becoming a business partner with my beautiful bitch. She has incredible potential!!! She has not been bred yet and remains "hopeful" by God's grace to have a "Special" career! At this time we do not have a handler or sponsor! Any suggestions or interested parties are very much welcomed! Thank-You.:emo8:

Some handlers charge by the win, so you pay them an amount if they win breed with your dog, you pay them again for a group placement, and again for best in show -- so potentially several hundred dollars a day. Multiply that out by 2, 3 or 4 day shows every weekend and you can see why it's out of the pricerange of most people.
And some of them charge a flat fee for handling per month..with my handler, it's $3500/mo for his special. Plus travel expenses, plus advertising, etc.
Got It Now

Thanks Murrey!!!! I'm learning the doberman world. It sure isn't like the Lab world that for sure. Thanks Again!!!

At a *minimum*, it's going to cost $25,000-30,000 a year to special a doberman. And that's with little to no advertising being done on the dog at all...some of these dogs wind up costing backers $100,000+ every year.

Handlers don't show dogs for free..and their special is the income they count on month after month..that's the fixed income, whereas class dogs (dogs that are working towards their championships) come and go. So no, there just aren't that many handlers that don't use backers for their specials-if they do, it's almost always because they bred/own the dog themselves...and even then, they'll try to bring a backer in so they get paid to show the dog.
Murrey your absolutely correct! Even as a hard working professional the costs are really expensive! Given the fact that my ex-handler and other area show dog people encougaged me to "special" her, I attempted to position my bitch to reach her potential. She completed her championship at 11 months. I brought her home to grow up a bit and as I stated earlier she was shown three short weekends as a special having major group placements wins including the BEST in SHOW! I love this forum it offers you another perspective!!! Where to go next is the question???????
I'd love to hear more aboutyour girl. Is there some reason that you can't tell us more about her? How about a picture? The people on this forum are a big mix of show & companion homes.........everyone is interested in talking about and learning more about their dogs no matter where they come from.

I currently have a 19 month old bitch showing occasionally with Gwen DeMilta. she is still maturing so we only show her occasionally till she is really ready to win. The average show weekend costs me about $500 between entries, handling costs, and hotel bills. I know I could not afford the expense of specialing a dog at this point in my life.

I also have her aunt who did show, but did not finish. She trains and shows in obedience & does therapy dog work.
Thank-You all!!!! I feel a part of a great family! I will be posting a picture of my bitch this evening. Take a look!!!! See what you think! Any interested parties can contact me privately! Murrey- "Your the Best"!!! I've taken your advise- you'll hear from me soon. Once again, thanks for the warm welcome. Shodobe.
I think she looks very nice. What is her breeding?
Indeed she is a beautiful girl, good luck with everything.

I'm guessing, from the picture posted, that this is Ch. Dawn-Ri's Going Down Swinging
She is very nice looking.
Well as a matter of fact it is! The one and only!!! How did you know?

well, Black dog is in that geographic area, but even I could tell it was Dawn Honiker (sp?) - she has a distinctive way of standing .......with or without a head - LOL! I know she shows her own. I'm in the mid atlantic, but Dawn comes out this way sometimes.

Does she go back to Bruda? She looks like it. very pretty girl, good luck with her if specialing is the road you wish to take.
Not too hard - I knew it was Dawn by the knee brace, and I just looked up the kennel club listed in the picture at Roy Jones.

Hi Blackdog! You are correct on the ex-handler but my bitch is out of Windspirit Kennels. The breeder is very small but reputable! She is out of two champions from that kennel. Most of her pedigree includes champions from Can.Champions Royolyn, Ch. Sunnysides Damascus Vondura, Ch. Rainbow's Running Bear, Ch. Cabra's Dark and Debonaire, and Champions from Dynamics line. She also has champion lines from Holland! She is a big strong bitch but moves like lighting! You are correct! This is Dawn- Ri's Going Down Swinging!!!
I find it just amazing how you can tell who the dog is bye just looking at her. I know she is in your area but still..wow

Shodobe - she is a very pretty girl, I can't wait to see more pics of her.
Not by looking at the dog - I've never seen her before - but by the picture. If you look at the little sign, it says the name of the kennel club, what she won and has the date. Then all you have to do is go to the AKC website and find the results for that club & date.

She is a good looking bitch. Love her deep chest, dry neck and her tight feet. She certainly screams I've got the power. lol
Good luck, regardless of where you go with your bitch enjoy.
She is just beautiful shodobe. let us know if she is evershowing in the mid atlantic, then I can go and cheer her on
