Natura Pet Foods Okay

1082 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  DobeMom616
I feed my dogs Innova, which is made by Natura Pet. I was running low on food and was hesitant to get more with the new foods being recalled due to contaminated rice protein. I visited the Natura website and was relieved to see this statement:
No products manufactured by Natura Pet Products were implicated in the recent recalls, including the latest recall involving organic rice protein concentrate.

They also state that they hope to have their own manufacturing plant soon (they use a Menu Foods plant in South Dakota, which apparently was not affected).

There is a list of foods that is safe -

and it is updated when UNSAFE foods are recalled.

We have this printed out at my animal clinic.

I'd just point out that the standard "disclaimer of the day" was also on the Natural Balance website up until a couple days ago.

Okay, now I'm worried again :emo10:

When did I miss a recall involving rice protein?
Natural Balance recalled SOME of its recipes yesterday. Below is from their website FAQs:

What products have rice protein concentrate?

Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Formula
Venison and Brown Rice Canned Dog Food
Venison & Brown Rice Formula Dog Treats
Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Formula

How did this happen?

From time to time we evaluate our formulas and look for ways to improve them. We recently looked at the Venison dry formulas and thought that adding another protein source would improve the formula. Unfortunately, the rice protein concentrate was contaminated with melamine.

Unfortunetly I was using some of these products.

I'll be curious to find out where the rice protein concentrate came from.
This is getting rediculous. Isabelle is eating Innova evo. I hate to change as she has been doing well on it. Since there are no grains in the evo formula I feel reasonably safe feed it to her.

Not sure where the rice concentrate came from but read somewhere that they (Natural Balance Venison & rice, Venisone & Green Pea) were sent to be manufactured at the plant that made Diamond Food. I f you remember that food was a recall (animals died) last year.
Maybe we should be checking where the food is made at.

Well, I just read the rice protein concentrate came from China. I thought NB touted all their ingredients are from the US?

I don't know if it is possible, but some people think the melamine was added to make the food appear that it has more protein than it really does.

Yes NB is manufactured at a Diamond plant. NB insisted that they had their own people to oversee the production, but apparantly that was a lie. I found this all out after I bought a 35lb bag of their food.

I'm really disgusted at this point. If I had the money, the time and the freezer space, I would be cooking for Peaches.

If you still have the bag take it back. You should get your money back. Get a receipt and write the UPC code down. Keep for your own records.

SNIP. . .
Yes, the source was in the US, but that US source got its rice from China. Pretty sneaky, right?

I feed Evo also. Since there are no grains, I feel pretty safe too.
