So my girl is 4 months now, and ive been having nothing but problems with her ears...they have never been infected, just red and raw inside from time to time....my question is could that be the tape i was using...i was using a paper tape to wrap the posts because thats what the vet told me to use...although i noticed it wasnt very sticky and was bugging her ears so i ordered zonas tape off the internet....her ears have been down for a day now and the one is floppy, the one is up most of the time....should i still post if they are irritated, or should i wait another day or two and let them heal up and try again with the zonas tape...im all worried now about her ears not standing because she is 4 months old now...i keep having setback after setback with her ears...any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!!

Her ears werent real badly irritated, just a few spots and i noticed when i changed her posts before there was lots of sticky goop on her ears, i ended up posting her ears today with the zonas tape to see if that made a difference, she is shaking her head still a bit every once and a while, i know i didnt tape too tight im so nervous about that so its probably too loose half the time. Her ears didnt look really raw or irritated today when i looked thats why i decided to post them back up, one ear stands pretty good and the other was flopped over, i just dont know what to do anymore, i dont want her to keep shaking her head, i feel bad for her...i guess well see how she does, if she keeps shaking by tomorrow i guess ill take the posts out to see whats wrong, thanks everyone for all your replies, im totally alone on this i didnt find this site until after i already bought my girl....needless to say her breeder was deffinatley a byb :( i wish i knew then what i do now, but a little too late, only thing i can do is move on and know in the future what to look for when getting a dog from a breeder!!
sorry for such a long post, like i said i dont have anyone else to turn to, thanks!!

Just been thinking a bit too....i was using the 3/4 backer rod and today i used the 1/2, and i was wondering if i should be using the 5/8 now that she is bigger, would that cause her to shake if the post is too small because it would be moving around in her ear...now that you mentioned it darkevs about it not being snug in her ear??

i think i made a mistake lol, maybe its not 3/4 im not sure i just know its small, and i have another roll of smaller than the 5/8 and a roll of 5/8, i guess im just asking if i should be using the bigger 5/8 now that shes 4 months old?

I think her ears might have gotten wet and thats why the tape was all goopey on her ear, not sure...its not smelly or anything like that...i guess i will see what tomorrow brings, ive been checking her ears all day making sure there was nothing nasty on the post that i could see, if i have a problem i will end up taking her to the vet and making sure she doesnt have an infection or gettin her some meds if she does in fact have one..

I will take some pictures tomorrow and post them on here to see if im doing an ok job or not

Now that you mention it Linda 3/8 is what i meant, and then used the 1/2 today, i was putting 3 layers of duct tape and then wrapping and back wrapping in zonas tape , i left about an inch maybe less of just the backer rod and tapered it at the bottom, are you saying to tape the base of the post like the part thats tapered cover that in the zonas tape as well or just leave it as the plain backer rod?

Thanks Linda, i went to the vet yesterdy and no infection or anything in her ears, so i came home and posted her ears, i tried it a little different and shes not shaking at all really, every once and a while but nothing like before, i used the 1/2 and it seems much better than the 3/8 it fits a lot better in her ears, not too small, not too big!!!
