Hello DT! I'd like to introduce two amazing and wonderful Linn Benton Doberman Rescue dogs, the lovely miss Abby the albino, and Rocco, a gorgeous AKC registered Dober-boy.

Carne absolutely adores Abby, and she plays like a puppy with him. It's hard to believe that this darling is actually 7 years old. Poor Abby was kept in a kennel pen inside a garage for 6 years of her life, before she was rescued by the Oregon Humane Society. One of their employees took her home to foster her, and he spent the next 7 months teaching her basic manners and housetraining. Unfortunately, Abby's separation anxiety was a little too much for her foster dad to work with, so she came to us here at LBDR. Abby is currently doing very good, although she does get pretty vocal when you're not in her line of sight. She has a little incontinence which we're going to attempt to treat with Proin, and she is considered a senior Doberman. However, she is very supple and has only minor signs of aging, combined with a puppy like enthusiasm for the good life she truly deserves. Let's all hope Abby finds her forever home soon!

Mr. Rocco here is a young guy in the prime of his life at only 4 years old. He came from a local Oregon breeder, who unfortunately doesn't have the policy of taking back dogs once she's sold them. Rocco's family was a first rate nice Hispanic family, but economic times hit them hard and they were forced to move to another state in a situation that didn't allow them to take their beloved companion. They literally surrendered him in a shower of tears, and it was just heartbreaking to all of us. Rocco has been a family dog his entire life, and he loves children. He is very dominant dog, and while he has had consistent training, he will test limits at first. Once he settles down though, he is completely loving, and just longs to be somebody's first rate buddy and best friend. Rocco is awaiting his turn at the spay and neuter clinic, and then he'll be ready to go on to his forever home.

Wish them luck everybody, and as always, if you're interested, please send me an email through the system here, or contact Linn Benton Doberman Rescue directly at 503-575-8489.

I completely forgot to mention for the people who've joined this section since I last lurked, that these two dogs are located in Oregon.

Hey DTers, could you all keep your fingers crossed for Abby here? She's been having some cardiac moments this past couple days, and I'm pretty concerned for her. She's going to get into the vet ASAP for a full work up on organ function and probably a go on the holtering. This poor girl is just giving her all to the world, but I'm afraid the world may just take it.

Hey everybody,

Abby is doing much better today. I'm growing more and more suspicious though that she's having heart murmurs and the beginning stages of Wobbler's, but it will all be supposition until she gets her turn at the vet's next week. We played in the ice this morning, and her, Carne, and Rocco ran and ran and ran out in the upper pasture, past the sheep and llama paddock. I didn't have my camera for that part, since keeping up with three rambunctious Doberpups kinda taxes my gimpy sense of stability. I did get some good photos of her and Carne out tooling around in the lower pastures though, later this morning. I'll try to get some triple action Dober photos tomorrow, if my leg is up to it. I've been limiting Abby's run around time though, as she seems to have that sudden gasping and shuddering reaction when she gets her heart rate too far up, and I'm just a bit uneasy about her having a heart attack out in the field. I know that there are worse ways to go, but still, I'd feel awful if she died while playing right in front of me.

Miss Abby:

And Carne being such a boy:

Carne really is the best ambassador dog ever. He's so well adjusted and happy he just sucks all the other dogs in to good behavior, and he's so well trained that when I call him, the whole pack all return right along with him. The one fault he has is that he's such an alpha dog, he'll take it onto himself to chastise the other dogs if they don't obey me immediately. I'm still waiting to see what he'll mature into, but I don't doubt he'll be wonderful, even if he doesn't fully pass muster to be the same caliber of service dog as Danni was for Tyger.

How is Abby doing? Any updates on her health this week?
Abby is doing great, all things considered! We just got back from the vet's office, so I really won't have any major news until tomorrow and next week. We had her tested for everything from heartworm to organ function to thyroid, and the vet said that her heart is good and strong. She still hasn't been holtered, and I would like to see whatever home she goes to be open to having her holtered, but I feel a lot better about her cardiac health now. We did some testing for a possible bladder infection as the cause of her incontinence, and just the general senior screen.

Overall, the vet said she seems healthy with minor issues that hopefully can clear up quickly, and in really good news, it's just a minor infection in her tooth, so she probably won't need oral surgery. We're waiting for the vWD test to come back before we do any major tooth cleaning, and that one will take at least a week to come back to us. I get bloodwork and urine test results back tomorrow, and we've got her on some dewormers and special medicated ointments for the banged up places on her face where she keeps rubbing on things. We are a bit worried about her kidneys, but the bloodwork should answer whether or not there's any actual issue, or just a few coincidental minor issues that look like symptoms of a bigger problem.

Once we know what Abby's bloodwork looks like, and after she's passed her thirty day fostering here, she'll be listed for adoption. Rocco met his potential new owner, and should be joining him after hunting season is over for his thirty day trial.

Thank you for asking about Abby, and thank all of you for your well wishes for our sweetie here. She's just a super sweet dog, and deserves to have a new life with a forever family!
