I'm looking to get a Doberman pup and already have a male Golden Retriever, he gets along with everything and everyone but was unsure on whether to get a male or female Doberman pup.

Definitely, without question, get a female puppy. Dobermans are known for same sex aggression, especially with the males.

Id suggest a female as well, just because the male dobermans tend not to like other male dogs. The issue wouldnt be whether or not your golden would get along. Male dobes arent male friendly. Aside from that, I have always felt females are easier to manage with their gender issues. If you dont curb certain male instincts in time they can be a real pain. This may not hold true for all males but when we had our chocolate lab we had one hell of a time keeping him from lifting his leg on everything, especially when he got into unexplored territory.

I am experiencing male on male aggression at the moment so I would say, go for a female.
I just wish I had spoken with these guys before I got my male, don't get me wrong I love him to pieces, but boy is it a nightmare when battle commences.

A male Golden Retriever will fancy a female Dobe pup.
- a male pup will soon be competition / and this may be nasty, when the dobe matures & can protect himself
Do yourself a favor...only consider a FM purchase / with an adult Male, in the house already.
- then it should be a "walk-in-the-park".

What a lovely coat your boy is wearing, where did you get it from, do you know if they have an postal service and what size would your recommend for a Dobe. We don't get really cold winters but my boy is such a whimp when it comes to blowy or chilly weather a coat seems to be a good idea.

How old is your Golden? If he's 9 or 10 maybe a male pup would be ok but if he's young definitely a female. I had two male Dobes about a year apart and they were in love with each other and inseparable except twice in their life and then it was to the death. Awful.

Actually, the issue is probably going to be with the male DOBE, not necessarily the male Golden. it is not advisable to bring a male into this household.
