Yes, that's really too bad. At this club, they invite other dogs to their practices, charge them $4 + parking for the land owner, and they were SO helpful and friendly. They told be the most unusual dog they had run was a Scottie -- so maybe I'll bring my Pug next time. He's a great runner, and it would be sooo funny.

I've seen that on TV before. I understand they use an automobile starter-motor to zip the cable through the pulleys.

I found this site....

....a while back, but the stuff seems kind of expensive for something to just keep in the yard.

Oh well, Rat Season will be here before long, and then Mensa will have plenty of critters to chase.

Well for us it's just for fun, to exercise and socialize. But for the other dogs (sighthounds) they might be practicing for AKC events. The goal would be to win the race when racing with other dogs, but for the practice the payoff is to catch the plasic bag and "kill it", he he.
I heard about it through my local Doberman club, because this particular Coursing club allow other non-sightdogs to come to practices - I guess because it raises a little $ for the club.
Do a Google for "Lure Coursing clubs" in your city, and see what you can find. But like MIA said, a lot of clubs probably don't allow other dogs, but you never know.

Only hounds??? What's wrong with these people? You know they do that so their precious hounds won't be so upstaged by the Dobes! Honestly, a sport where you have to chase and then destroy underwear is a dream sport for any Dobie :)

They were going to do turns etc. later in the day, we only stayed for the straights which was about 3 hours worth. There was a guy with 2 titled Greyhounds there, they looked really good. But the Whippets are wicked fast!

Someone there actually said that the Dobes probably would outrun the Ridgebacks, and I think she's right. Both FiFi and the other Dobe were very fast for never having done it before. I can't wait till next time, and I AM going to bring my Pug too...
