My daughter usually takes Lucan to his puppy class but we had to switch nights and I ended taking him this week. Different class, new dogs, OMG! The GSD beside us kept creeping over and barking at Lucan and he would not settle down. He would not do anything he was supposed to and was a total idiot. The instructor asked if I had ever tried a promise halter on him (ie. your dog needs help!) We were escorted out of the room and Lucan was fitted for the promise halter. Well his reaction was hilarious. He pranced around like a horse - I can't walk with this thing on my face Mom! When we returned to the training area, he pushed his nose into the mat and sulked for the rest of the class. He did the bare minimum of work but man was he good! I have never seen a face like that on him! Anyway, the change is amazing. He walks right beside me now and is truly a joy to walk.:boldblue:

It is a nylon collar that has a loop that fits over the dog's nose and fastens behind the dog's ears. When the dog pulls, it puts pressure on his neck that is uncomfortable but not painful. It is also known as a gentle leader.

You have me laughing so hard......I can just picture Lucan and I am sure he was a sight. I have seen dogs try to walk on their hind legs and use their front legs to try and get the gentle leader off. Once they get used to it - it works wonders. I use it on my pit - for her it is much more effective then a choke chain or prong collar cuz she will practically hang herself before she gives in. With the gentle leader she walks right by my side and doesn't even try and pull.

I thought some one wrote in you should not use a Gentle Leader or Halter on a Doberman because of possible neck issues that is why I have not tried one on Buddy??????? Please if I'm wrong about this I would really like to know, I would like to try one on Buddy. When on our walks with the scooter he will not stay by my side he wants up by the front wheel he also still gets his toes ran over would think that would hurt but it does not seem to phase him in the least. I tell him all the time watch your feet then he will move over if I could get him to walk beside me I do not think he would get his feet run over.
Hope I'm not stealing this post.
