Hi everyone! I am looking for advice. I recently lost my dobe and I'm presently searching for a new one. Unfortunately a rescue in my state wont call me back or respond to e-mails. Some of the breeders I've tried to contact won't respond neither or seemed a little short. What are my best options now. Go out of state? I hate to hit the puppy mills but at this rate I'm starting to get a little pissed to be honest. You try to do the good thing rescue and breeders but if this is the response I've been getting kinda makes you wonder especially at the rescues how many good homes a dobe could of had.

First, I'm sorry about your loss. The process of saying goodbye to a pet is one of the worst things in the world if you ask me.

Second, finding the right pup takes time and patience. Many people here waited months or even years for the right dogs. Good, reputable breeders show their dogs AND have jobs and lives so you have to be considerate of that. I can't speak for all breeders but mine took months of trying to get in contact with and over email the first few messages seemed rather curt. However I love this woman now. My dog is amazing and she has been nothing but helpful. However, she is showing her dogs just about every weekend and has a full time job during the week, most other reputable breeders probably do the same. What are you going to do when you contact a breeder and the person responds in a way that you like but won't have a litter for another 6 months or a year?

Personally, impatience doesn't justify supporting a BYB. Nothing does.

As far as a resue, have you tried just filling out and submitting their adoption application? This might speed up the process with them. Someone on here may chime in that knows about the rescue(s) near you.

I know it's hard, but try to be patient. I understand your frustration, but please don't put money in the pockets of the BYB's. It could cost you a lot of heartache in the end..

Best of luck to you!:)

Rescues are the same way. Imagine having a house full of fosters, going to events every weekend, trying to fundraise, and be honest... Intake, trying to find placement and transport from a high kill shelter takes precedence over answering email from the public. Give it time. People, breeder or rescue, are busy. These are humans, their lives revolve around their dogs but they also have day jobs. The right dog is out there, and if you give it a hot minute your paths will cross

You just filled out your rescue app a week ago. Be patient :) Rescues are run mostly by volunteers, with jobs and families.

Yes, I am in contact with IDR. Filled out an app. So hopefully.*fingers crossed* I've also e-mailed bruda dobes. So I guess well just have to wait and see.

Maybe you could try volunteering for the rescue, maybe even sign up to be a foster? By getting to know the people who work with and place these dogs you might be able to get a foot in the door and also help out our beloved breed at the same time :)

I guess thats why I'm a little impatient never really had to hunt one down and figured with computers and cell phones today a response would be quick not a we've got a perfect dog for you but at least an acknowledgement.

Did you call IDR yet?

"While we are reviewing your application, you may call to inquire about any of the dogs on our “Available Dobermans”. It is probably easier to wait though as the dog you inquire about might be adopted by the time you complete the application. It is important that you inform the foster parent that you have submitted a copy of the application".
