Kaiser's UTI... not a UTI after all.

Some of you may remember me posting a concerned thread about a month back about Kaiser having a UTI and the vet expressing concern about it spreading and eventually killing him.

Well, we've continued to fight with the dribbling, give him antibiotics, take in countless urine samples, get more distressed and worried about Kaiser, and return over and over again to the vet. This morning, we took him in and dropped him off for some x-rays and other tests. While he was being watched though, our vet noticed something.

Kaiser's penis does not behave normally. I had thought it was a bit strange, but dismissed the behavior as puppyhood. Turns out, this may be the source of infection. The penis very, very frequently comes out of the sheath. When he sits, when he stands, when he gets even remotely excited... He used to chew on it, which we finally got him to stop. We figured this could likely spread bacteria. But it continued sliding out and taking a good bit to fully retract into the sheath. Every once in awhile, the sheath would get caught on the penis and sort of curl in, leaving the tip sticking out a bit, sometimes for over an hour. Our vet thinks this could be the source of bacterial infection and gave us a flush to use. We're crossing our fingers that this works!

You took me back over 20 years ago my first male doberman had a problem just like that and we had to flush out several times a day. Thats when I knew I could handle the unmentionables...........I'm glad you guys found the problem!!

Good to know someone else has had this happen.

I'm prepared to flush several times a day if I have to. The vet had me so worried that he was going to die that I'm prepared to do just about anything!
