I took her today to get fixed, and they weighed her at 40.6 lbs... Shes about 22 inches tall, and she will be 6 months on October 4th. I've been trying to look at average weights but I haven't found anything all that specific for her age. I know that all dogs are different, just like us, but does 40lbs for a 6 month female seem really light? I was under the impression she'd b about 50lbs by now. I should mention that this is my first doberman puppy...

Did the vet say she looked ok overall? My Vizsla is 21.5" who is very small boned for a Vizsla is 38-40 lbs. My 22.5" Vizsla was 45ish lbs and had more substance, possibly like a Dobe puppy.

It seems on the "smaller side" overall but not "tiny" by any means.

The 45 lb Vizsla - if a Dobe looked like this at six months I'd say it was close to normal-ish

Yea the vet said she was looked good, I just thought she'd b a little heavier... But to answer ur question, she looks to be in between the 2 dogs posted, which should be right so I suppose she is a normal size, I had just figured she'd b a little heavier.

Thanks for the help!

She sounds fine. Gunner is 4 months and weighs 42 lbs, but he's going to be huge. The female dobe that we fostered a few years ago was on the smaller side, and she weighed around 40 lbs at 6 months. By the time she was full grown, she weighed right at 58.

People always freak out when it comes to how lean they look. You've got to keep them lean for the first 18 - 24 months. Over feed them and their bones are under stress while they grow. They can develope limps and other disorders from over feeding them when they're too young.

I think 40lbs is a bit light weight for 6 months old Doberman but she may be a petite girl.
It depends on her bones structure.

22" is a normal height for her age. A Doberman female should be between 24 1/"2 and 26 1/2". The ideal is 25 1/2". She will gain 2-3" for sure.
