Today I decided to take the bull by the horns and went to see the President of the local Hunting Society to try and sort out a few of the problems I have been experiencing with the local hunters etc.
I began by introducing myself, I didnt get very far, he stopped me halfway through my pleasantries and said. 'He knew who I was and that in his opinion I deserved all hassle, stone throwing I was experiencing because my dogs in particular my Dobe runs loose on the mountain.'
I explained 'no, they don't and in particular no my Dobe doesn't'.
He wouldnt listen, he told me how a hunter and a runner had told him they had been barked at by my dogs and how my Dobe actually went up real close and threatened to bite them.
I asked when this happened, bear in mind I am always with my dogs and my Dobe is always on the leash and muzzled and he has never in his whole life gone up to someone and threatened to bite.
He told me he couldnt remember when it was, but that he had seen for himself my dogs running around without anyone being with them, I again asked him when that was and again he said he couldnt remember. Now surely if a Dobe had gone for you, it would be imprinted within your grey cells forever.
Now as I have said, I never allow my dogs out alone, my Dobe is leashed and muzzled and whilst I do on occasion let him off for a run I only do so when I am 100% certain no one is around.
It turned into an argument I'm afraid. Him being intransient that my dogs are running amok, my denying it with my whole being until it got to the point when I just walked out.

So guys how good is my Dobe, muzzled and on a leash he is managing to terrorise the local neighbourhood.

Isn't he a clever boy.

Just Say AHHHHH!

Pretty crafty- I know that when someone is ranting and out of control, the best way to get them to focus is to ask questions with definitive answers. When did it happen, where did it happen, and so on. You did that; so I'd have to say his out burst wasn't emotionally driven.

That leaves two possibilities:

1) He's classic example of an A$$hole. In which case, you step back, take a deep breath and say AHHH! in recognition of a perfect specimen.

2) He's a classic example of an A$$hole that knows he's wrong, and is blustering his way through. In which case you smile, and take your walks carrying a small video camera and a notepad for license plate numbers... Odds are certain they'd be in a world of brown stuff if they got pinched for harassing people while armed.

When I was young, I had a neighbor who turned my dog in to the local Animal Control agency for nuisance barking during the day while I was at work.

The only problem with that was that my dog was not at home when I was at work. She was in a different town, staying at my mother's kennel during my work days. With witnesses, of course.

Some people.

wow, first it is so sad that they have to be muzzled when you take them out, I feel so bad for the dogs having to be treated in that manner when they totally do not deserve that. Its a shame that someone cant educate people more on how our breeds temperament is.
Second it is a shame that these people are harassing you and your dog. Don't they have anything better to do with their time than pick on the person with the doberman? What the hell do people have against our dogs anyway?? For crying out loud leave us alone if you dont like our dogs, just go away and we wont bother you. Thats what Id tell them.

Sorry you have to go through this. I'm sure you don't need to be reminded, but if your boy is ever out in a fenced area unattended or anything these creeps may be very dangerous to him, whether he's doing anything wrong or not. It sounds like a situation where they may leave poisoned meat where he could eat it, or being hunters out with firearms... I shudder to think.

Watch out for your boy, you may be in for some trouble with these creeps out to get him.

I also had a super bark dobermann that could be heard by one neighbour when he was 40kms away at dog training....and even up to 60kms away at my boyfriend's house. Some of our dogs are pretty special ;)
Yeah, my ancient Yellow Lab morphed into a young male Golden Retriever, attacked and severely injured a small dog, and was taken hostage by neighbors in ransom for the vet bill...all while he slept in the bed beside me.

Fact is guys we never leave our home unattended, so we know where our dogs 24/7 and having a 2 metre high fence around it, my dogs getting out is going to take some doing.
The thing is, no matter how I defend myself and my dogs it all boils down to one thing. I am a foreigner and the locals while happy to take my money don't actually want me to live here with them.
Toby is my first Doberman but I am deeply in love with the breed already.
I will not let these morons get to me, I will not let them accuse my dog of doing something he hasnt done, period.
I have decided now to walk him in broad daylight, taking my camera with me. I will abide by the law, even though it sucks.
Let battle commence as they say. They have picked on the wrong woman this time.
But I will be careful, for my boys sake.

I have heard a GSD & Dobe were let out w/o supervision at a rural home (and maybe went into a neighbor's yard?) GSD was never found, Dobe came back with injuries from birdshot or something similar.

so be safe with your boy

when I was a child we had a chow/GSD mix and my neighbor shot her in the stomach for just being on his land
OH MY GOD, what an absolute pig, if it isnt bad enough he shot your poor dog he shot it in the stomach, what an a$$hole, I hope he got what he deserved.

I took my boy out for a walk today, down the road to the village, (stopped short of entering it, in case he caused a stampede or the like amongst the cattle, [locals]) On our way back up the mountain, (boy is it steep) we took a detour into one of the orange groves, (checking it was all clear etc) and let my boy off, (though I kept his muzzle on him) It was the first time in over 3 weeks he had been able to have a run (other than in my garden). After chasing a couple of Sparrows around the field he came back to me and played zoomies and bouncies :boldblue: for about 10 minutes before we had to go home (we thought we heard a car coming so we had to hide quick in case we were seen). He really is such a sweetheart, coming back to me the moment I called him and was so good when I clipped his leash back onto his collar. It really made a lump appear in my throat that he had been such a good boy despite feeling so pent up. Why cant folk take him for what he is, not what they think he is.
