Okay, I'm sure this is an odd topic because I'm not complaining, but more inquisitive.

My 14 week old Dobe pup has gone a full week without any accidents. Good, I know. But here's the kicker... he's been having very loose stools getting used to his dog food. Last night, he woke me up 3 times wanting to go outside. He wakes me up, I let him out of my bedroom, then just watched out the window to see what he does. My puppy, went all the way through the house, through the garage, through the dog door that is much too small for him to go potty where he is supposed to. I didnt have to give him any commands, any direction, just did it all on his own. Is this normal? Do dobe puppies really learn housetraining this fast? :graduate:

I feel like I've stumbled across the greatest pup ever. Not only is he doing extremely well on housetraining, but he hasnt chewed a single thing in my house. When he wants to chew or play, he goes to his toybox and picks out a dog toy!! Not a single chewed item in my house, no chewed cords, shoes, remotes, etc.

I'm not bragging, but I'd like to hear from other people's experience.... are all dobes this easy to train? Or am I just REALLY lucky? Or is he going to go through a rebellious stage sometime in the future? what do you think?

I think you are doing a fantastic job of letting him out when he needs to go and preventing accidents. To me, fully housetrained, means will go to door and let me know and hold it until I get there - and that's awfully hard for baby puppies. But again it sounds like you are doing a fantastic job.

Don't rule out obnoxious behaviors yet :) Thank your lucky stars so far he isn't a chewer :) Some are, some aren't and from what I've seen it usually starts about 4 months or so.

He's doing great! :D

My Leia started whining and pawing at the door to go out when she was 9 weeks old. NO accidents in the house... except when her brother Luke is visiting. She's so excited then, she forgets her manners.

Luke, on the other hand.. is giving my daughter a hard time with housebreaking.

chewing starting from 4 months? That sounds very unusual to me. Mine is nearly 16 weeks old and his chewing habbits are starting to decline as his teeth break through.

In terms of toilet training, it's been bit harder for me here. I have been having some victories as he cries by the front door more often, but there are still those occasions where he makes no effort to alert you. Ironically, in the morning, he gets out of his bed and always cries to be taken out. Comes back in and toddles off to bed.

I think you ARE very lucky...every now and then there is a pup who is easy in the house....and you might have gotten that puppy :). For all his foiables, MoJo never chewed anything up, and housetrained in 10 days...fastest "in-house" puppy I've ever had! Outside the house, he has been a challenge everyday for 7 years...ha! :)

You are very fortunate!

Not wanting to go negative on you, but prepare for the scary "Doberteens" -- when they get a tad rebellious and obnoxious, just like human teenagers!

Great thread...I think largely:
We "harvest the crop, we sow"...and often we get, what we expect !!

Amy was purchased at 8 weeks old:
- on day 2 / she tried to chew the computer cord & was verbally corrected...never happened again
- after 1 week / trained to fetch a tennis ball
- after 1 week / she dragged my leather shoe for chewing purposes...I had a big laugh, took the photo & then corrected her
- only 3 weeks to housebreak (and taken outside in the middle of the night)
- 4.5 months old / walking through the city side streets off-leash
- 4.5 months old / left alone in the home unsupervised for 1-3 hours/time...only 1 incident
- 6.5 months old / healed on city main street sidewalks & we crossed through traffic light corner, all off-leash
- Doberteens never happened

At 9 weeks old, my leather shoe ended up on Amy's dog bed...LOL...not to be repeated:

She learned quickly to have house manners...lots of toys & free house reign / no crate / no gates needed:
- mistakes were dealt with, in training & learning / home never had to be puppy-proofed
