Hello--new to the board but found it researching this topic. 4 year-old completely healthy male wouldn't eat and threw up liquid this morning. The vet found a fever of 106 and he is now hospitalized on IV antibiotics and liquids for 3 days. Blood work shows high liver enzymes but they said fever is coming down slowly and more tests are needed. Does anyone have any experience with this? He was perfectly fine last night and we've lost a past doberman to liver failure. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

wow, that is a high temperature.

never dealt with liver issues, knock on wood, hope your Vet can help your boy.

the only time any of my dogs had a high fever was one female (temp 106) who had an impacted and infected anal gland and a male (temp 104) who had a prostate infection.

Hugz to your boy, I hope he will be ok.

Well, after all these days, Lucky Jack gets to come home this evening. We still don't know what is wrong. His temp is down and his liver enzymes have fallen but were still in the 300s yesterday. When admitted they were in the 800s. They were sure it was lepto but that came back negative, so a liver biopsy has been done and now we wait for results. They're now looking at copper but not sure. At this point we want a diagnosis, but at least he can come home and recuperate and he's not in quarantine!

Glad to hear your boy is doing better, and gets to come home. I hope they solve the mystery soon, and that he will return to complete health. Thanks for the update!

Someone I know just reported something similar regarding her female Dobie. She lives in North Eastern USA. Could there be something geographical going on?

How is Jack? (if you havent done so already) I would get him to a specialist if you still have no answers. Results should have been back by now? Keep us updated and sorry your boy is sick :(

We had an enzyme scare last year with Sofia, throwing up bile, lethargic and glassy eyed..even some incontinenge. After IV's of fluids, vitamins and antibiotics, we put her on Royal Canin Hepatic for two months and the enzymes count dropped so dramatically we were pretty sure it was 'just' an infected bile duct.
Good luck with this and let us know.. it's terrifying.. I know. Prayers for you and your boy.

Update--Still waiting on liver biopsy results for Jack. We should have them mid-week so I will report the findings. On the bright side, other than being tired from his ordeal, he is acting completely normal and hungry as a horse--
