I tried to explain in my first post on the first page about how reputable breeders crop ears.

not all reputable breeders crop ears.... i know some breeders who crop who should be shot...so how does that even out... i guess you base your reputation on whether you crop ears... im guessing and not just attacking you CoAls that you pick your doberman breeder solely on whether they crop ears because that is basically what you are saying... here... if i am not mistaken..

Hard post to follow, but no I don't think I am wrong about choosing a breeder that crops so I did not get defensive. Of course there are other factors involved in selecting a breeder besides just cropping ears. That would be silly.

i think some people are reading incorrectly -
by saying that a responsible breeder crops their puppies - it does NOT say that ALL breeders who crop their puppies are therefore responsible.

for another example:

dobermans like to lay on the couch. are all dogs that like to lay on the couch therefore dobermans? of course not.

assuming that finding a responsible breeder is as easy as using "they crop or do not crop" criteria is oversimplying.

The day i got king back after he got his ears cropped i almost cried 2 seconds after i saw what they did to his ears. I will probably never do it again. I have close-up pics if you would like me to post them. they are pretty graphic.

I had the thought of "WHY did I decide to do this??"...I feel horrible for him. At times he seems so uncomfortable, trying to get the tape off, shaking and scratching...If I ever get another Doberman, I wont crop.

love you know i felt the same way so dont worry it wasnt just you there have been a few of us to feel this way... and yes it does hurt... but wait till those ears stand up and you will be the happiest mama in the world just wait... i was so sad i cried for two days then... when the scabs feel off and they started standing and now im happy i did it... woohoo glad it is going good for your baby and he is home... hugs

I'm sorry that you're going through this with your baby... I had a bad crop experience with my pit a million years ago and is ultimately why I decided not to crop Chi. In fact I have to be honest I doubt I would ever crop another dog again... If that means that when I am finally settled in the states and ready to cut my teeth in the dog show world that I have to stick with obedience because I have an un-cropped Dobe, Staff, Boxer, whatever, then so be it.... In my opinion the pain (both the dogs physical and my emotional) just isn't worth it, but that's just my opinion and I put my first baby through the ringer before I came to it... You and your pup are in my thoughts and prayers... I hope you can find a vet/breeder that knows what's going on and can help you

thanks so much tracy!! many people told me that it's just not worth it (especially if he's just going to be a family pet)...but I guess it's something you have to decide on your own. It makes me sad looking back at his pictures when I first got him. I just can't wait until it's all over.

no, you weren't talking about couches. kim used it as an analogy in order to show an error in logic that some people were making.

and i think her post was far from a "mess" -- it was a logically sound statement.
