Turns out the Willamette Valley Schutzhund Club is based about 5 miles from my house. And there is another Sch. club about 10 miles away. I'm going out this weekend, they meet every Saturday for training. They are having a seminar this Saturday from 9-5 with a world competitor. I guess I picked a good week to investigate. :D

oh how fun! I have to get better at finding things to go to lol....that or there is nothing much around me lol. are you going to bring a camera?;)
are you going to bring a camera?
Is that a hint? LOL :anicam:
That will be lots of fun. I think that is definately a hint. We want pics.:)
I think thats great! Look forward to hearing how it goes for you. I think once you check it out for yourself, you will see that it is not a bad sport. It's not meant to make dogs aggressive, it is alot of fun. I give props to anyone with an open mind who will at least go and check it out and give it a shot.

Have fun!

Oh I'm not one of the ones who thinks it's a "bad sport". I actually used to train with a schutzhund club many years ago with a previous doberman. It's just been a very long time and I've had limited experience in it....just with that one dog. We only trained in it, never competed in it. He only competed in conformation.

I don't think that most Doberman people think schutzhund is a bad sport, it is a sport that when done correctly should result in a well rounded dog. I do think that some of the people who do it are in it for all the wrong reasons.

I personally think it would be a blast to do. I don't have good club near me and just don't have the time at this point in my life. If I did, I would probably enjoy doing it.

I do think that with all the BSL, we have to be very careful about how JQP perceives it - because THEY are the ones who would get the wrong impression of it, and the breed just can't afford the bad publicity. Of course, this is all JMHO
