since kane has helped me home.... hes not been himself. i think i hurt him when i 'leaned '' on him. he is acting out.in a not good way.its not at all like my sweet kane. his foot/leg's been bugging him, tho its not swollen or anything, and since on pain relief,he refuses to obey me, wont lay down, stay out of the window, or anything he knows to do,and is licking his right foreleg alot.called holistic place, and they said to put him on trameel , and im not sure if its the trameel,as he acts goofy on meds. im stopping the traumeel.
and by acting up, i mean, 3 times in the last 24 hours kane has bitten me.not to bleeding, but i have a few bruises to show for it. we had him sleeping in the bedroom, but not on the bed. as usual,he listened fine until yesterday.hes now in a crate. he has been acting up,more than usual, anyways.since my incedent, but last night he wasnt feeling well, and had gotten on my bed. i told him off, he showed his teeth, got the squirtbottle,he growled, i said'' off now'' and he snapped at me. i finally tried to remove him,and he got my forearm,i worked through the bite hold on my arm and scruff-removed him. he got right back up,and i tried to give him the ''off'' command again, no go. so i removed him again, firmly agrasp by his teeth on my forearm,he got removed off the bed, i kept ahold of his scruff and tossed him out the bedroom door and he let go. and he growled and snapped and barked at the door for 5 minutes and took off downstairs where i yelled to my partner ''get him kenneled, fast'' i was more perplexed then hurt. kane is NOT known for agression. and it seemed like it was pain, or medication related. tonight, i just lightly raised voice to get him out of the window from barking at nothing. and he snapped and got nasty again.hes back in the kennel again. im not sure how i should 'handle'this until traumeel is out of his system. im not sure if i should basket muzzle him,or not confront him/ leave him kenneled but potty runs or what?
also he has just had a 3yr rabies/1yr distemper vax and he acted up last year after a 1 yr rabies vax and a distemper vax,in about the same time frame. but he was depleted at the time and un neutered. i didnt make the possible connection, till now? could this be a vax reaction? how do i deal with it?

i just dont know what to do here.....:please: give me some advise!

Wow that's crazy!
Here are just a few thoughts off the top of my head.
Has he been getting as much exercise since your accident as he was before? If not, he may be overreactive because of pent up energy.
I would certainly call a vet - There are several things that spur a change of behavior - I would want to get see if there are medical reasons for this.
I think you should start enforcing NILIF ASAP ( Nothing in Life is Free ) - on lead and with you or crated. You are in control of everything right up to a drink of water. If this is behavioral NILIF will help reinforce you as his leader - and keep you and others safe. I would not hesitate using a basket muzzle. Let's face it, if he bites you or anyone else seriously things will go from bad to worse very quickly - avoid the bite by using a muzzle.
I'd make the vet the first visit. You need to find the source of his pain and find out how much exercise is good/safe for him.
Even if he is hurting, he should not be acting out so aggressively imo. A growl or a snap is understandable to some extent but not prolonged aggression at the door after you got him off the bed.
He's just over 2 years, right? Has he been neutered? Are there any females in season around that might have him aggitated?
I'm sure your going nuts over this - I know I would be and I would take it personally (but I'm really crazy) - I'm also sure that others will write in with more advice. Keep us updated and good luck - I'm sending postive thoughts your way!

hes neutered and has been for over 6months.no bitches in season that i know of.jade (neighbors rottie)goes in around the same time as beep,in january.kens girl angel,is spayed, and the labs across the way are both boys.all the other closeby neighborhood dogs are males.he may be pent up,but if he runs or walks on it it increases the licking. i see no leg/foot deformaties,no swelling no nothing, its not even hot to the touch.he has had bad reactions to both medicine and vaccines before....and it was sudden and rapid worsening onset, right after the traumeel, but started 3days after his vaccines.it may just be a combo of all the things, with being down due to my fall i cant walk him. gl's got the not feeling well thing right now,if you get my drift.he will not run outside in the yard.unless beeps out,but shes a spitfire.lol i will see what i can do but im stopping traumeel as a test/precaution. hes just edgy, and nervous.and not happy right now.

I just read in another post that things are escalating between him and Einstein. I can't help but think that his attitude toward you might have something to do with that. He's mature now and might just be fighting to control the family (that or his brain has gotten too big for his skull and the pinching is giving him one hell of a headache and making him very grumy:) ).
Good luck - I'm really curious to see what others have to say....

the above thought did occur.....and an injured alpha would be a target for a high rank motivated dog.he has in no way won out,as i still hold my own position and will not back off or give it up. im known for my tenacity and strong will.i am assertive and in control ,regardless,as my ''bed removal'' illustrated. he bit,i didnt back off,and im not afraid of him,i wont put up with it,and yes,i bite back.lol

it sounds plausible to chalk up the sudden and uncharacteristic personality change to the meds. Have you had these authority struggles with him before? Maybe now he knows you are down and is trying to make his alpha move. Or if this is totally out of character for him, then there has to be a cause - either he is in pain and/or the recent meds.

Whoa...the alpha move is serious. Sebastian did this shortly after Tori died. Her death disrupted the whole heirarchy and I saw things that i never dreamed of seeing in Sebastian. It slowly went away but left me amazed.

I so hope this goes away with Kane! That is just nuts!! As DR said, it could be this or meds or any number of other things. Please keep us posted as I am interested for both of your sakes.

power struggles are frequent, but never this severe, but have occurred before,to a lesser degree. its mostly general disobeidiance and making me 'back up commands'',though the meds may be a major part, by lessening his inhibitions, and my bum ankle makes me a pushover and a target.gl he has not givin a run in like this, but im the top dog period. he may be trying to one up me.and skip her due to my weakness and the meds are taking his inhibitions.

two possibilities:

Firstly, that there's a medical cause (perhaps related to his meds, or some underlying problem). First thing I'd do is get him to a vet and get this thoroughly checked out.

Second possibility, if it turns out there's no medical/meds-related issue, is that this is a dominance issue, as others have suggested. If so, you need re-establish owner = boss. That means work, and back-to-basics with him.

It sounds like a lot of things have happened in the last few weeks.

Shots, dominance with other dog, helping you home and perhaps injuring himself. If he had a reaction to shots last year, he could be having another reaction. I don't give RV and the distemper together...I wait a month or more between them. If he is sensitive to them, you may want to break up any shots he gets in the future.

I think I would get him in for a check up with the vet just to rule out any pain he may be in. If he's licking his leg and it is hot and swollen, then it could be pain and not dominance that is precipitating this behavior. You don't want to bring the "law" down on an injured dog!

I keep traumeel in my medicine cabinet and have used it for myself and my dogs. I have never had any reaction at all to its use as far as behavior is concerned. It is wonderful for those sprains/strains to reduce the pain level and help with swelling.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted....

yes,vet checked him, he just pulled something,we think. nothing showed broken. its not inflamed/swollen either.its his right foreleg. foot and ankle.though some arthritis showed,up in exam. we knew he had it there.
i think its more dominance/pent up/ meds lowering inhibitions. i stopped his pain pills as a precaution/test. he'll get run today a bit with beep also. i will work on his ''respecting'' me. if it doesnt lessen im going to use an ecollar for corrections, for his 'resistant behaviours'.if he doesnt redirect i will use stim on a lowest working setting.
it could also have a stress contributing factor, gl is working again. hes pulled 2 out of the 3 when she was not present. hes just being a bossy butthead pincher.
another reason is hes done a few manouvers around food, for the dominance idea. trying to steal it off my plate if begging doesnt work, nose on counter, and trying to take it off the stove while cooking....etc. he cant be hungry, and i know this...... he doesnt eat it,just gaurds it and gives me the eyeball, like just try it.when hes successful in stealing it i usually take it away with a broomhandle so i dont get nailed.(tho hes never bit me over food,im not chancing it)
its dominance,im pretty sure of it.

the things you describe and your interpretations honestly leave me very worried about the entire situation. no matter what has happened in my house, I don't have to remove things my dogs have taken with broomhandles, and even when challenging me my dogs don't latch onto my forearms. If your dog is injured, the last thing he needs is three miles exercise, and I would definitely scrap considering bringing in any other dogs (you were posting about fostering/adopting another doberman, potentially alexis the girl in PA). There sounds like there are a lot more behavioral issues in your house that you need to deal with, which are not helped by there being multiple males in the house, and even if you think you are alpha, alpha's don't have to take back stolen objects with broomhandles. I'd get a good trainer/behaviorist in the house, enforce strict NILIF, and I would not have kane interacting with any of the dogs for the time being. I've never heard of a dog reacting this badly to traumeel (which is a homeopathic remedy, for those who do not know). there are some major issues in the household that need to be dealt with, looking at these posts and some of your past ones, because the path you guys are on doesn't sound like a good one. Just my honest opinion here.

I did reconsider foster and declined to do so.i just didnt have time to tell you.
and kanes behaviours appear to make sense....i found out why..........
we found why kane was acting so terrible. on top of everything else the pull, traumeel reaction,my fall and gl working again,we think beeps going into season again. shes getting swollen down there, and shes doing her ''assertive thing'' heat behaviours/fussing alot again. plus it was about 5-6months ago she went in, early january/late december. i just now noticed that. lol
as far as kane,i took him down a notch, with training him his obediance and it seems to have worked, walking him was the only way to release his pent up,and i was very slow, and watched for fatique,as for his leg,the vet thought he ''pulled it'' when i wrote sprain i ment strain.(typo) the biting stuff was the traumeel as far as i can see, i stopped it and in 48 hours he was kane again(tho hyper from pent up). he has not done anymore nasty behaviours since hes been off traumeel.i cant take the oral traumeel, due to a bad reaction. i see stuff like flashes of light and get a bit panicy/anxeity. so he may be reacting as i do.as for the broomhandle removal of objects/food ,that was only till he was over his traumeel nasties. i took chicken from him by walking up with no issue today. he looked away and let me take it. its just a cluster f**k right now. my life does this alot.lol

doberkim,
as for traumeel reaction, i belive strongly that was it.I react simularly to kane,in otherwords bad, though my reactions dont include biting.lol
i get panic and anxeity attacks from traumeel, and see light flashes and shadowing in my vision(what little i have)
he could have been nervous or frightened as a result of traumeel, wich made him defensive.hence the biting issue, if he reacts ANYTHING like me.
thats why it onset suddenly/after his/my pull/vax. we gave him traumeel at the same time. each time.vax cuz his butt hurt/pull cuz his pull hurt.hes now acting like kane after stopping the med, though he's wound up play mode. hes fine after stopping it
