Hello everyone!

I am new to the forum though I have to admit I have been visiting, oh about, everyday twice a day to read all of the information, opinions, advice and stories for the last few months! (In a non creepy way of course!) So finally, after months of uncreepy lurking I have decided to finally jump up and say “Hello!” and introduce myself and my little family. My husband, myself and our English Bullie Bella live in the Twin Cities. We have been searching for a new dobe addition to our family for quite some time after doing intense amounts of research on the breed everywhere we can find it (hence my lurking :) ). It’s been tough and full of ups and downs but I know it will be totally worth it once we can finally find our boy. (We are looking for a black and rust boy for companionship). We were approved by a breeder, who was very kind and informative, but found out after the puppies were born that mom and dad were both vWD affected and unfortunately had to make the decision to walk away. So now we are back to square one, emailing breeders that we find good references for either from the DPCA website or people on here that have had good experiences. Back to square one and keeping positive that square one is more of a step to new beginnings with our boy once we find him, we know he’ll be worth the wait! If anyone has any additional pointers for the puppy finding process feel free to send them our way :) along the way and once we find the little guy (whether it be in a month or 6 months) I will keep you updated, hopefully we'll be posting adorable puppy photos sometime soon!

In addition to saying hello I just wanted to say thanks, for your stories, information, experiences and advice throughout the boards, you have been more informative than you may ever know and already helped us in the search for our new family member and have given indispensible advice for once he gets here, so thank you!

Welcome neighbor! I'm in MN and am involved with Doberman Rescue MN. I don't know if you'd consider rescue, but DRM just had a litter of nine purebred pups born this week that will be looking for homes once they are old enough. If you're interested, drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch with the right people.

Otherwise, if you want breeder recommendations, I'd start looking out of state. There aren't any ethical breeders in MN, unfortunately. There are some I can recommend in Illinois, Michigan, or Missouri.

A (happy) Update!

Wow thanks so much for the warm welcome everyone! I am very excited to report that we finally found our boy! After months and months and what seemed like even more months of searching we found him! So after many a happy dance and a bulldog wiggle butt (Bella was excited about the news too...it was either the news or the fact I was about to put down her food bowl!)

Naturally, Hubby and I took a bit of a roadtrip over the weekend to meet the breeder, her dogs and the sweet little ones and of course I took some pictures! We won't know which boy is ours for a few more weeks when the breeder can evaluate their personalities and match them up with owners but it was good just knowing that our guy was there! The puppies all looked great with shiny coats, clear eyes and weighing in at about 5 lbs right now at 3.5 weeks. (You may see a few specks on the red collar boy's head/face in the photo but he had just wandered through a bit of dust and struck a pose) We also got to meet mom who was super sweet and gentle (dad is from another breeder so obviously wasn't on site) as well as her other Dobes all of which were among the most well mannered, gentle dogs we've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

They are getting their ears cropped at around 7 weeks and then come a few weeks more we will finally have a new Dobe addition to the family, we couldn't be happier! Whichever boy it ends up to be we are going to name him Hobson :)

and of course I had to include a sweet puppy yawn :)
