Hello,
I would like to introduce myself. I am a long-time Doberman lover. From the age of 13 I have loved the breed, I am now 34 and still am in love with them. My ex-husband aquired my first dobie, Onyx, from a byb back in 1997. With luck, he never had any horrible illness, except for an enlarged prostate at the age of 7. He graced me with his presence until the angels called his name in 2006. I will forever miss my Onyx, he was my heart dog. I have been lurking on this forum for a while and have sure learned a lot! I found a few reputable breeders within the MidWest and may look into bringing a new dobie into my life again. I currently have a rescue boy, they guessed black lab & pointer mix, who is 2-3 years old. His name is Ringo, and he is quite a ham. I was wondering if breeders sometimes have older puppies or adults available? I have thought about a rescue, but would feel much better knowing the health history and such. Thank you for all your input.
Yes, breeders do have older dogs and pups available from time to time but I wouldn't say that it's a common thing. Anyways, welcome to DT and good luck on your search!
Depending whereabouts in Iowa you are, you may be able to adopt from Illinois Doberman Rescue. Otherwise, there are several good breeders in the midwest.
Yes, great breeders occasionally have older pups or adults available. For example, Bruda in Illinois currently has an adult female listed on their website as available: Available Adults -. I'm not sure if it's up to date or not, but if you start researching breeders you might want to contact them and talk to them about the possibility of an adult rehome.
