Hi everyone,
I'm new to the pleasures of owning a doberman, I got my little bundle of joy 3 months ago now and he isn't so little anymore! I've made some insightful observations on the breed in my short time owning one of these magificent dogs, or maybe these are traits that only my dobe has? Maybe someone could elighten me.

1) Is it normal for you dog to like watching ants? He gets really close, with his ears flopped over the top of his head watching them. Occasionally he sniffs them which makes them magically vanish!

2) He is a Princess Laya inpersonator. His ears defy gravity and end up both turned inside out when he runs, which gives him an uncanny respemblance to Princess Laya

3) Eating everything and anything in sight! Just this week Luca has snaffled a loaf of bread, the remainder of a tub of butter and the remainder of a tub of cream. He's either a greedy get or he's making me a bread and butter pudding as a suprise

Yes to all. Oliver's ears aren't done and they are usually flip back. Puppies put everything in their mouths. Oliver's favorite was rocks. He still grabs stuff, but know he wants us to chase him. They are a busy breed.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. I laughed about your Princess Leah impersonation as I too have a natural eared dobe and I often tell her she has Princess Leah ears when they get all bunched up from a great deal of running, jumping and playing!! Coco also intently watches insects and sometimes barks and play bows at them when she wants them to play with her. Luca is a beauty!!:butfly:

I am constantly amused by him and the way his mind works. I see him staring intently at seemingly nothing, but on closer inspection its a tiny spider or a little ant. I think he would really like to have a play but gets over excited and just pounds the poor fella with his nose or paw. We have a tortoise too which he is still trying to get to play with him, thank goodness for that hard shell! He's learnt to be gentle with the little fella now though and has taken to watch him amble round the garden. Will put more pictures, and hopefully some films on my blog this week, keep you posted!

Hilarious!! Loved reading your observations. From what I hear and have experienced with my own, very much dobe traits!

Huxley eats rocks. Rabbit poop. Socks. Seaweed. Pillows. Anything and everything that she can get to before I can! Lol.

ah Leia, what a cute name! His ears really change how I see him, in the morning when they're all floppy it makes him look like a girl, so cute.

Baxter, most of the pictures are taken with an iphone, but the good ones are taken by my dad on his Nikon, I haven't got the camera or the origional photo with me to tell you which model it is, sorry!

zmchristopher, I'm in North Wales! The pics are taken in Nantwich because we lived there for the last few months but now we're in North Wales, near Mold. I'm just sitting down to watch Wales play France in the rugby world cup (don't tell anyone I'm an imposter!)

Amelia_Murray, ha ha will try the phone thing! He also barks at stuff on the coffee table, because he knows he can't have it. I've just been to Tesco and there are squeeky balls there for 9p !! Bargain!

Kircus, what is it with the rocks!! Also the dog eats the tortoise poo and the tortoise eats the dog poo! Minging!

Thank you all for a lovely welcome!
