Hi all,

I have noticed every so often throughout the day, Sherman has some white "eye goop" in the inside corners of his eyes. I dont think this is entirely normal. Any suggestions? They're like sleeping-eye stuff... Thanks all.

Isabelle has been having more goop in her eyes lately too. I have chalked it up to allergies. It has been really really dry & hot here with some winds so basicly it is super hot & dusty. Plus my allergies have been awful - sneezing like crazy & unable to breathe! I have to stop at the vets monday so I figured I'd ask them about it. I will let you know what they say.

Actually, I identify with what both you and Burns are saying. It has been very hot out here in the desert (100 plus), as well as totally dry and windy. I look forward to hearing what the vet tells you. Thanks.

My allergies have been terrible too! I must go through a box of tissues a day :) I've also noticed that Indy has lots of "gookies" (as I like to call them) lately too. I remember when Abby was getting them a lot many years ago, the vet gave me some ointment to put in her eyes and it cleared up.

I actually took Rommel to the vet for this when he was about 6 or 7 months old. The vet said it is normal and that if it bothered me I could rinse his eye out with Saline Solution (like you use for contacts) He kind of grew out of it though.

I'd recommend trying a diet change also... Frankie's allergies make her eyes run (amongst other things). I don't know dobes, though, but it'd be worth a try. There's some good quality foods out there to try. We currently use Natural Balance duck & potato, or I use Wellness venison, duck, or fish.

It's an especially bad allergen year here in the NW...

Im not sure, but this may have started when I began adding raw hamburger to his diet..?

Java gets bad eye goop in the spring and I chalk it up to a reaction to the pollen in the air. It's also a good reminder to change out the air conditioner filter frequently to keep out the construction dust (does it EVER go away??).

Java contracted conjunctivities at the dog park last year (goop all throughout the day, not just worse in the am) and it was not fun, altho' she was pretty good about allowing me to put the antibiotic drops in her eyes. Keeping a separate stack of washcloths (bulk at Target) just for her use came in handy, would separate them from the family towels and wash them separately in hot water. Just be sure to wash your hands thoroughly afterward after cleaning pup's eyes, etc. even drying on a paper towel and tossing it. Can be transmitted to humans through the bathroom towels. Also, wash favorite snuggle/crate blankets frequently until pup is better - you don't want Sherman to re-infect himself accidently.

Who said Dobes were less work than kids...??? lol

Hope it's just allergies and nothing more serious.

Frankie is allergic to beef, chicken, lamb, turkey, corn, wheat, peanuts. These I know for sure by testing them myself... I also think they're very common allergens excepting the turkey, that's an odd one. :)
