Hi everyone, I am new here, well actually I've been lurking I just haven't posted before. Does anyone have any experiences with the breeder Giles Doberman? I've spoken to them and they were really nice and helpful and seem to have a nice facility. I just wanted to hear some experiences as I am considering purchasing a puppy from them.

Love the forums and thanx for the input.

I`m sure a lot of comments will be coming.
On this site their does not seem to be any health testing on the dam or sire(very important for me as well as longevity) No real titles either. I also do not care for that large of an operation--no special attention can be given to that many dogs or litters that are born.

There are a number of red flags at their web site. One is very striking. On the "faq" page the question of "are you a puppy mill?" is posed, here is the answer: A:
No we are breeders, sometimes considered a Kennel.
We do Not have 40 or more dogs.
We only have one breed (Dobermans).
We do Not sell to resale shops, wholesale houses, pet stores, or laboratories.

An adequate answer would have been: we are a small kennel who breeds only one or 2 litters a year. Our goal is to better the breed through careful and selective breedings... or something like that...
I mean they tell us what they "don't" do but what about what they "do" do? Do they health test? I didin't see any records of that or any kind of legitimate health guarantee in the contract.

IMO, they are a puppy mill. Their website made me want to throw up. Please look elsewhere, for what they are charging for a pet quality puppy with their ears cropped and NO health testing (almost $1000) you could go to a reputable breeder. Where are you located, Im sure that there are many people on here who would be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Ugh. Their facility is pathetic. Dobermans NEED to be in the house with their family. BFD if it's heated and air conditioned. It is cruel to make a Doberman live away from their people.

Conformationally, the dogs look horrid. Those are some of the worst ones I've seen. An international CH. is very easy to aquire from what I understand.

I don't see any mention of health testing or temperament testing.

I would not purchase a puppy from them. If you care to say where you are located, someone here maybe able to steer you in the right direction. Or if you are near any shows, that would be a good place to start to find a breeder.

I agree 100% there are a disaster waiting to happen. Their bitches look like they have a litter every season there in as long as they have one.
If you feel like helping rescue dogs and paying a thousand for them instead of a neutering or spaying fee, because basically that is what they are they just haven't got to the pound yet.:emo11:

I can only imagine the situation these dogs are in. Usually the websites of breeders make the dogs look much better than they normally are but these don't even do that, they don't look good at all IMO, they look shabby, bred way too much and are just really pitiful.

I agree, Dobes want to be with their people, anyone that has more than they can keep in the house with them for companionship has too many.

Heartbreaker.

Hello, Donna,

We just wanted to give you an update on Simba. He is now 17 weeks old and doing great. We had his ears cropped at about 10 weeks and then sent him for two weeks of professional obedience training; we have continued private weekly obedience lessons since the two weeks of "boot camp".

Question: I thought reputable breeders have the ear crop done prior to releasing the pup to it's new owner of which this service is included in the charged fee.

Just from a novice standpoint, the bitches look pretty worn out.

In the contract it mentions "Hip Dysphagia"

Hip Dysphagia.......................Disphagia is diffuculty swallowing
Dysplagia is abnormal growth or development of cells, tissue, bone, or an organ.

You would think they would have someone write up their contract so the punctuation and wording is correct before submitting it to potential buyers. I am not an English teacher, but I would think that a professional would have this stuff sorted out.

only my 2 cents.

Giles

They are horrid people!
The blue bitch they have is a rescue!!! They bred her!!!!!!
You can see who they chose to "handle" their dog at those silly National shows. Just dealing with her is a red flag.
Their dogs make me very sad.
If you live in their area I can tell you a good breeder to contact.

"Companion/pet puppies: non-cropped limited A.K.C. registered $600.00. Cropped limited A.K.C. registered $900.00. Show Potential puppies: Cropped full A.K.C. registered $1500.00. That includes microchip, (home again and registered with AKC Recovery)"

This is going to sound very snide.... but I can't imagine they could honestly every sell a "show potential" pup. I can't imagine there ever being one born after seeing the "breeding stock"

I honestly have to say, that place definetely rates as one of the worse looking BYB I've looked at in a while. They ask that you pick out your puppy from the pictures only? That's insane. Under the claim of the risk of disease being transmitted to the pup.

And I love all dogs, I think as a creature, all of them are beautiful, but that in mind, those are some of the worse looking dogs from a confirmation standpoint that I have seen. They have no business breeding those animals. Websites like that only serve to infuriate me.

They make the claim, of not breeding blues, but I swear that last girl listed is a blue? Maybe she's black with a really really bad coat.......

I'm not usually so harsh, and actually tend to avoid threads requesting input about breeders, but these guys just turned my stomach. I really think you can do much much better for the money. And it will pay off in the long run with a structurally sound and healthy dog.

Thanx!

Hey all, thanx for the reply's. It's been 5 years since my female Dobe passed away and I wasn't ready to get another one until the past year. I've been preparing and taking my time looking around and I 'Thought' this was a good deal. I was considering the 4.5 month old puppy on their Nursery page. A female with her ears cropped, all shots, microchipped, beginning obedience, and housetrained to a doggy door. She is $900 limited AKC.

I live in Dallas and to be honest, I did great being able to get to $900 for a puppy. I can't go more than that but I don't want one from a BYB either. I thought she seemed to have a good history and the ears were already done. However, I don't have the experience with breeders as you do so that's why I asked for help here. I appreciate any comments and help and feel free to email me if necessary.

I want the best I can afford for me and my family. I've raised 4 Dobes and helped with a 5th. Worked with a trainer for a while in obedience training and my last female was with me for 12 years. I miss her greatly and I wished that dogs lived as long as parrots do. We do a lot of camping and lake trips year round and we have just over an acre for my new family member so we feel we are ready.

Thanx again!

I think you should seriously consider rescue GUER03's, they do have younger dogs. And you could take the extra money and use that towards things the dog will need. But good luck and keep looking!!

OMG, there female breeding bitch *******, looks as old as the hills..:(

Good luck in your search. When I decided to rescue, it was because I couldn't afford $2000 for a quality dobe. I don't have the time for training and showing it takes for a dobe like that. Even $1500 for a pet quality was a little steep. I decided I wanted an adult, (Rudi was 2 1/2 when I got him) He has turned out to be a total dream.....no dog I will ever have in the future will ever compare to him. We fit together like 2 peas in a pod and the Dobie rescue matched us perfectly. His donation price was $250. I have since sent more $ to their cause and have since started volunteering at the rescue in my hometown. Maybe a show dog is on my horizon........and now I can say that I've been able to understand and appreciate the breed even more.

Keep looking. You'll find what you want if you keep beating the bushes.

My puppy-budget started out at about half of what I spent to get Mensa, but it took a while to find her. But, the longer it took, the bigger my puppy budget got. By the time everything came together, my budget had grown to match the pup.
