When I got my dog from the breeder i was feeding him a food through the breeder called ripleys ranch. Lately I have been feeding him pedegre for muscle maintenence the dog is 8-9 months and appears in great shape. What are you guys feeding?? thanks for any info.
also I put canola oil on his food just a bit every couple days, and an egg on top every couple weeks...any tips on that sort of thing? thanks again.

RedDobe, here is a link to a discussion we had a bit ago about what and how we feed: http://www.dobermantalk.com/showthread.php?t=708

I feed a combo between RAW and Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice. Although there are better kibbles out there, this is the only "decent" food I can find on this remote island that doesn't require me to dip into my child's college fund to buy :)

I was sick a week or so ago and just did not feel like running to the big commissary to pick up dog food when we ran out, so I just ran to the corner store and grabbed a bag of Pedigree to feed for a couple days until I made it to the commissary. Holy cow, the difference in the poo's between the Pedigree and the Nutro is so unbelievable. Nutro poo is much smaller, firmer and not nearly as stinky as Pedigree.

Hi there, I also feed raw to Lexus, but have been experimenting with my other two dogs, right now the last food I bought was Merricks dry and I really liked it. I tend to switch it up with nearly every bag I buy for a change in nutrition, and also use Chicken Soup, Canidae, and Nutro Natural Choice with happy results with all. Occasionally if raw food prices are through the roof or if I work late and have the kids or hubby feed for me, Lexus will partake in a kibble dinner too.

I have been giving Lexus some Merricks canned periodically too, and I really like that as well. Excellant ingredients, looks good enough for me to eat, like a chicken pot pie soup or something ;)

Where do you get your Merrick's? When I worked at the vets a lady came in with her Dane that was going to stay with us and she fed Merrick. Addy had a wonderful coat and skin was nice too. She said she bought it online? I'd change to that if I knew where I could get some. Chicken Soup is nice food but pricey.

I get it at Pet Supplies Plus, Pet smart would probably have it too. You maybe able to do an online search on their site to see who carries it near you.

I am really happy with it, it has little freeze dried veggies in it, the first time I opened it, hubby laughed and said it looked like Lucky Charms :) It was the Wilderness Blend formula with Buffalo, venison and salmon.

There was a deal the last time I bought it that you get three cans free with purchase, and I really like the canned as well.

I am feeding Chicken Soup and Raw.. they get chicken soup in the morning and for lunch and Raw for supper..Chicken soup cost me $28 per 35lb bag..I really do not see that it is much higher than the other dog foods, I have in the pass used Nutro and really liked it.. I do find with Chicken soup that they are not eating as much to stay full..

I just had to laugh :)

I know what you are saying, with the premium kibbles, you don't have to feed as much to them for them to get their nutrition. But my porkies could still eat a truckload and not be "full"!

I feed Bruno Eukanuba puppy brand right now. He seems to enjoy it and he's lookin healthy :) It's also what my sister recommended me to feed him. Since that's what he had when he was a puppy. I haven't thought of trying anything else.

Have you all check out the animal feed stores in your area instead of places like Petco and Petsmart..We have a couple of feed type stores.. they are doing a lot more with dogs and cats but caring things for horses and other livestock.. Well, I said to them that I wished that they carried Chicken soup dog food since I shopped there all the time and they said that they would special order it anytime I needed it and asked how much I was paying at the other store and they would meet or beat the other store's price.. So my point is don't be afraid to ask about things like better prices for shopping at a store so much, buying 3 bags at once or what not.. price break, or special orders and meeting or beating other stores prices!!! Hell, all they can say is No!
