A dog will only gain weight if you feed it more than it needs. Yes their metabolism can slow down after they're fixed but you cut back the amount you feed them if this proves to be a problem. I had Ava spayed at 6 months old and I find it hard to keep weight on her because she's such an active dog. I've also known dogs that were very overweight and intact so it goes both ways.
