Just got back from taking both kids and Gunner to the park. This is our first official outing together aside from the vet, and overall, I would call it a great success. At first, Gunner was pretty nervous about everything. This park is HUGE and has tons of things that he's never seen before. He struggled for a bit at walking on the leash, but I stayed calm and encouraging, and by the end, he was walking right beside me like a pro
After he had relaxed a bit, we went to the children's playground. It was pretty packed which I was happy with. I let my boys play while I worked with Gunner. Even with tons of kids screaming and running around, he stayed very calm and sat quietly beside me. When kids asked to pet him, I allowed it as long as they were calm and not too wild. He fell in love with one little girl and even layed down in her lap. By the end of our trip, he was completely relaxed and confident. Mission accomplished! This park is less than a mile from our house so we will hopefully make this a daily trip. The ONLY negative of the trip were the random parents who shot me evil glares for bringing a child eating dog to the playground. I was proud of Gunner though...after they saw how well behaved he was they ignored us. Guess I better get used to that....
