Ok I will be quite honest, I thought some of you were a bit sappy when you were emotional over your dog eating raw for the first time. I am one of you now and sappy isn't the word for what I was... I actually had to call a non-dog person to tell her about it because my computer was down and I don't have any of your phone numbers LOL

They both got beef short ribs (don't think I'll feed these very long because they are pretty small and as she grows I can see them becoming a choking factor but these are the perfect size for Petri).
Chi jumped right in and had no problem, she had a blast and it did sound disgusting LOL Petri was pretty hesistant and I finally cut the meat off the bone but left if chunky so he'd have to work to get it bite size... In the fridge thawing out now are turkey necks and we have turkey wings in the freezer Don't think I'll be able to feed raw exclusively at least not until I can try to find a local butcher but some is better than nothing, right???
Just had to let y'all know that we have 1 foot and 2 paws on the raw bandwagon
Oh and YoYo the cat looked at me like I was smoking crack when I offered him some meat from Petri's bone LOL

You know when we got Ava at 9 weeks, she had a thin coat. Nothing extreme, just thin in some areas and I assumed since she never 'grew' out of it that her coat would be thin for life. It wasn't til I switch her to raw at 8 months that her coat grew in fuller. I noticed a difference within a couple weeks and while her coat isn't completely normal, you'd never notice unless you were looking for thin spots. I thought it was my imagination as well...... Perhaps not. *shrugs*

Well, I know my dog, and tonight I brushed my hand against the grain of her fur on her back and it was a soft feeling, not prickly and bristley like usual! I guess I'm just a really happy mom! For a few days Lexy came in the office (where I feed) and stood by the food tote when I said dinner time, and today I told her time for breakfast (this moning and dinner just a little bit ago) and she bolted to the kitchen to wait for me where she's been eating her "new" foods! SO I know she's a happy camper too!

Chi's new favorite food and toy seems to be Turkey wings... I cut them in half, figuring the bigger meatier part would be awesome for her and the smaller part good for Petri... Petri still isn't all that impressed and I don't think I'm going to push the issue, at least not until I've gotten this thing down pat with Chi. But the wild dog that she is went nuts with it LOL Do you know how gross those things sound when they splat on the linoleum??? Jordan about lost her spaghetti o's over it LOL But she had a blast tossing it up and then chewing and ripping it a bit and then tossing it up again. Needless to say we've realized that feeding Chi in the kitchen while we eat our own lunch is probably not a good idea... Chi was moved out to the patio where we could keep and eye on her through the sliding glass doors but didn't neccessarily have to hear all the gory details This is so much fun!!!! And not as expensive as I thought... If I were to feed just turkey and beef (not that I plan to but that's all I have bought so far) I figure I can feed her for about $30.00 - $40.00 a month and that is just shopping at the commissary (am still hoping to find a decent local butcher on the economy). Since I usually spend close to $60.00 on smokes and I've quit (decided today was the day instead of next Monday) I'm still ahead $20.00 a month That $20.00 can go toward saving for another Dobe in a few years when we come back to the states and possibly buy a real house with a real yard You guys are such a bad influence on me!!!! LOL

Hate to rain on your raw parade, I have nothing against it, but a Doberman coat IS suppose to be hard, not soft.

I never said it wasn't....and it's NOT baby fur soft. It's just not like needles anymore. I guess it just takes a little creative thinking on the part of the reader.

What's with the bitchy attitude?? I never said you said it was "baby fur soft." I was merely pointing out that it is suppose to be hard not soft. IMO the prickly feel is more what it should feel like than "soft" as you described it. Maybe it takes some level of reading comprehension on the part of the reader and alittle knowledge about the Doberman standard.

I know what you mean! My dog, Scoob's coat used to feel dry almost, very course and I figured that was normal for him but after a couple months eating raw, his coat texture changed. It feels much more smooth and sleek now and for the first time in his life he blew his coat! Granted he isn't a Doberman and his coat is slightly thicker than a Dobe's would be but I never knew him to shed his coat like that.

This isn't the first time you've come at me regarding doberman standards when I've never been degrogatory or contradictory to it. And starting a post with "hate to rain on your raw parade" IMO isn't a neutral way to open a conversation if you "just" wanted to state a comment.

Consider that a drier not as healthy coat is coarser where as a healthier coat will be sleeker and shinier and by product of so, also feel smoother and softer.

We were merely stating how happy we were as to how our dogs were doing on the diet. Not looking for education on coat conditions in relation to breed standard. As for the rest of your comment, you have said things to me in the past that for all intensive purposes go well beyond "stating facts" so you know full well where my comments stem from.

As my final note on this subject what I said was (summed up, not word for word) to the effect of I feel my dog's coat is already improving in apperance and texture. Not what is the doberman standard when it comes to coats?

I understood what you were saying. But, what you were describing isn't what a Doberman coat *should* be. I just didn't want people to think their dog's coat should be "soft."

Back to the point of this thread, is Chi still doing well after a few days on the new diet Tracy? Harley and scrappy are feeling very left out!! I'll probably eventually switch them over too, Tom found another butcher fairly near us, (since the other one is a hair solon now!) I'm gonna stop out there tomorrow and stock up. (wahoo, one more day off!)
