I never worried too much about the bacteria. It is not like they will be funky after a few hours because the marrow has a high concentration of fat. I used to freeze them as many as 5 times when my dogs were puppies. I would use a non-sharp knife to scrape a bit of the marrow out close to the opening of the bone and then refreeze it. That way the puppy gets a taste of marrow each time and works hard to get to the part that is is frozen in the middle. The puppy works harder and longer on the bone and you can read the paper! Of course, now my adult dogs usually clean them out on the first go-round.
