Ears

Hi,

I have a couple questions about posting.

1. How do you know if you've wrapped the ears to tight? I've always went around loosely and then just squeezed the tape after a couple times around. I would hate to go 3-5 days and just be wondering the whole time if it is to tight.
This morning both of her posts were removed from the base of her ear. I'm quite certain that I had them placed as far down as they could go. Did I just not wrap the tape around the base tightly enough?

I've been following the instructions on how to post that are stickied at the top of the puppy forum. Minus the optional color step.

2. Is it common to get pimples or something similiar around the base of the ears? I'm guessing that's what they are and I just noticed them yesterday. They look like little white pimples. Should I be concerned?

Thanks for your time.

I am a noob to posting myself but I have found out that if you back tape the posts it helps A LOT keeping them in place and not popping out of the base of the ear. Back posting means that you tape around the posting sticky side out.

As for checking to see if its too tight I just smell his ears and check to see if there is a little wiggle room in the tape. If you do have a breeder in the area or someone on Dobermantalk that lives near you I would so take advantage of that.

I have my breeder that can do it for me and she knows the in's and out's of taping ears, I had to take his posts out because on my daily ear check I saw at the bottom of his posts was irritated. After it healed up I thought I would attempt posting and she said that I did good but that his ears had to come up more because he has a lower ear set. So it really does help if you have someone really knowledgeable to help you out.

Odin has pimples as well I just take a baby wipe and wipe him down from head to toe but I wipe down his head more often after eating to get all the dirt off to help prevent more from coming in.

This is what I was taught also and we spray it with starter engine spray to make it even stickier. I put baby powder on the backs of the ears to prevent hair from being pulledo ut.

I'd rather tape too loose than too tight and then change tape more often if need be.

When you put the bases in did you pull up tight on the ears also so they were in as far down as possible?
