My boy Romel, 18 weeks old, has beautiful LONG ears. His crop was done by Sophia Koster in NJ. I must say that I did his tapings (she was 4 hours away) and his tips do curl a bit but it just makes him all the more beautiful. I get comments everyday "Look at those ears, is he gonna grow into those?" and other great comments about how beautiful he is. I just wanted to say that although looks are important ( I worked very hard on those ears) sometimes you just have to do whats best for your kid. My boy is a tripod, so making those ears stick straight up just wasnt as important to me as it was to his breeder. I love him no matter what.:emo1:

Ok....again....how do I use the Breathe Right strips and Skin Bond? I bought both today.
Carol
I usually clipper the hair off the part where I'm going to use Skin bond, but that's probably optional. You want to put the breathe rite strips where they're going to support the part that's flopping..put the skin bond on that area, let it sit for a minute or two to get tacky, then stick the breathe rite strip on the skin bond. Sometimes I've put 2 strips side by side, it depends on how much support I think the ear needs.

Ok....now that is a beautiful puppy! I can see what you mean about my sweetie Petey's ears....YIKES! Live and learn....

We spend our entire life living and learning, the day we stop is the day we die :)

Trust me when I say I've seen a lot worse than his. I still would give your breeder a piece of my mind if I were you........... I'm betting you paid plenty for him.

Keep working on those ears and he will grow into them somewhat I'm sure. My Velma had a big head as a puppy and she grew into it - LOL!!

I agree with Velma and Murrey about Petey's ears. :( Doesn't change the fact that he is a charming young man and a great kid I'm sure! I also would definitely notify the breeder on the poor quality of the ears.

IMHO, he will grow into them to some extent, and they won't be so noticeable as they are now.

He a great looking boy regardless :)

Oh, absolutely! My first doberman was 10 months old when I got him. Although the shape of his crop wasn't bad overall, the edges looked like they'd been cut with pinking shears or something. We lived through it, and he was my heart and soul..zig zag ears and all.

Grrrrr you guys got me looking at his ears toooooo closely now! I told my sister (she hasn't met him yet) about all you guys said and how I now think Petey looks SURPRISED! With such HUGE EARS, standing so erect.....well she was very depressed when she called, and laughed soooo hard and was soooo happy that she called me, because I cheered her up! Thanks...all at the expense of my poor Petey's huge bad crop! Anyway....I love him, and think I will just keep him posted....he looks fine that way....do you think after several years people might question why he is still being posted????

Luvbirds, I think it's sad if this thread makes you look at Petey any differently than you did the day before.

For what it's worth, I think his ears are fabulous and beautiful just the way they are...those ears are not a disaster and he'll only get better looking (if that's possible) with age. Personally, I think they add character and a unique quality in an area where there is a lack of it due to the standard cookie-cutter styles.

I agree. Wouldn`t it be sad if we all went and had the same nose job done on us. He is beautiful. A trend setter in the making.:clap2:

I think Petey looks gorgeous whatever :biggrin55 As you said its not like your gonna show him and he won't care whether they are too big for him or not!! My lad has the wildest ears ever!! They do what they want when they want! But I wouldn't change them for the world, they fit with his character!!

Don't worry about me looking at him different....I was just kidding. My sister was feeling bad about her new mutt puppy and I wanted her to feel better...that my dog wasn't perfect(although he is you know!) Other then his ears....I think he is georgeous! His coat is such a pretty color, and everyone that meets him says...THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL DOBERMAN! That comes after they first say....LOOK AT THOSE HUGE FEET!

I don't think that anyone wants her to love her dog any less for the fact that it is not a great crop. Education is not always a bed of roses, and we learn about this breed that we ALL love no matter what the quality. I would imagine that Petey will end up being much more beautiful than my first Doberman, and I did not stop loving her when I discovered that she was a walking barking conformation nightmare - LOL!

I love my Dobermans to distraction, but am also keenly aware of each and every shortcoming that they have.

It will not be years

It will not be years that you have to post it just seems like it someone said on the forum the longer the ear the longer you post.Buddy still has huge long ears not sure if he will grow into them or not. I had a terrible time posting kept at it they both stand now just one tip keeps flipping back Breathe Right strip. I think you are in a big hurry to quit posting like I was but you will be happier if you keep posting awhile longer at least till all his teeth are in.Hang in there a little longer.

Thank you all for your comments and help. Petey is 5 months old today and digging deeper and deeper into my heart. His ears will become his trademark. People will say things like....you know Carol, the one with the big red dobie with the huge ears! :biggthump

At least I no long have to wonder why his ears look funny.

Dobie Diver....Petey's ears are standing fully now except for the very tips. All the people on here say to keep posting until all his teeth are in,even if they are up, because sometimes they can start to flop again. Petey has a while to go until then....and then after the teething you can use the breathe right strips and skin bond (if you need to) at the tips until they are strong. So I'm following the great advice from everyone.
