Ear Posting problems

Well, we have to put Loki's ears up again. We had to keep them off for a while because he had an ear infection and we were administering drops in his ear.

I really suck at posting his ears and I was was wondering if anyone had any tips. I tried to post them right now and he just ripped them out. I think I'm afraid of putting the tampons too deep as that may have caused his ear infection.

I saw an advertisment for a bracing system and was wondering if anyone has tried to use this system?

Any feedback and help is readily welcome!! :) :)

Honestly I think what I would do in your situation is to contact someone who has posted many ears, a vet, reputable breeder of a normally cropped breed and have them demonstrate how to post and clean the ears on your dog. Until then, there are a few good tutorials online and even some videos on youtube that might be very helpful. Many people tend to avoid the hoytt posting solution solely due to the hoytt reputation and there are mixed opinions of whether it actually works or not. Of course every dog's ears are different and the method of posting will need to be slightly adjusted between all.
I agree, and see if you have a local Doberman club where someone might be available to help. Where are you -- maybe someone expericenced on this board lives near you....

Go to the DPCA website, www.dpca.org . You can either click on "chapter clubs" to get contact information for a chapter club near you (and I think there's at least one in MA), or click on "breeder referral", which will provide you with a list of breeders by state. Both would be good resources to hopefully find someone nearby who can help you with ear posting.

Thanks for the website. :)

I just checked it out and found a lady under the "Breeder Referral" that's only several miles from where we live. I'll have my husband give her a call and see if she can lend us a hand in getting his ears properly posted.
