So for reference if you placed a ring over the dog's ear with 12o'clock being the back, 6 o'clock was the front by the natural fold and 9 o'clock was the skull side at what position would the bumper be? Does it depend on where the pocket formed? Do you want the bumper to "push" out the pocketed area? If not how high should the bumper be? Exactly where should it fit in the ear? Looks like we have pockets at the front of the ears right over the skull right behind the natural fold on 5mo old. Ears look pretty good except when hyper-alert, then the tips almost touch. Thanks so much for any help!

A pocket forms at the base of the ear... and will turn ears to look like this

It's so hard to exactly see because the coat and picture is dark at the end of the arrows but the result pretty much looks the same only when she gets super alert. She can be alert and they look great, but I am guessing great ears should NEVER come close at the tips, right?

the ears should not touch at the tips or like look a teepee. They should look more like a "U" shape, if that makes sense. The bottom of the "U" is the dog's head, the sides of the "U" are the ears.

The bumper helps push the ears out of the teepee shape and make them more "U" shaped.

Maybe this will help, I had posted this pic asking about bump placement,

When there is a pocket, the bump almost always needs to be where your red and yellow lines cross. You may want to really pull the ear up the post more.
