Ear falling at 14 months.

Ike is 14 months old and still in posts. They get changed every few days. If I allow them to stand on their own, his right ear will start dropping after a day or two, eventually falling completely if they aren't put back up. I've made sure to not let him sleep without being posted lately. Both ears do stand perfectly, but the same one refuses to stay up. Even if it does fall, it will stand beautifully again after another few days in posts. At his age, is it still possible to get them to stand permanently, or is the one bound to forever fall?

I've had Dobermans for almost 20 years, and this is the most trouble I've ever had with getting both ears to stand. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

(I’ve attached a photo of his ears when they do stand. I’ll try to find one with the ear when it drops.)

???

I will hazard a guess that is 99 % of your problem with that one ear . You only leave them un-posted till they are good and dry when you take the posts out .

I breeder once told me that for every day you leave them un-posted it takes 3 days to get back to where you were at

Just keep posting them and leave them posted till time to change and then right back up

I second ECIN. That down time to let it flop is probably eating up all your progress. Post them. When it is time to repost only leave them down for long enough to get a new set of posts ready and put in. (20 or 30 minutes) Post for another 2 or 3 weeks this way. Then one day when you are home all day, leave them down to check progress. If you see any wilting, right back up they go. You are probably right at the end, but every time they are left down, you're losing that bit of ground gained. They look like they will be great ears once they are done.

Ear dog's ear cartilage is different. Don't get frustrated every dog is different my present dog took 5 months with 2 wks of breath rite strips another dog 6 1/2 months. My suggestion is to use the strips for a while, hopefully, it will work. Good luck

NO WORRIES!!! I just posted about my Creed's ears. She is Almost 14 months. I am Still posting. (With an alternative posting way. I use my Black breathe right strips and Black athletic tape way) at 13 months 22days Old TODAY was the first change of her ears that there was NO Wobble Flopping of her ears (mainly her left). I am going to continue to post in my way for at least another month. I was about to give up hope. But todays posting change let me know that commitment dedication to my Creed IS/Will pay Off.
EVERY Dog is Different. Just like Every Person Is Different. Creeds left ear was cut just a bit narrower than her right ear. Is only part of why I believe it is/has/will take so long. Creed IS WORTH EVERY Extra Second of the Continued process. As Stated TODAY at right at 14 months is the FIRST Time Her Ears Stood as there are intended In between posting. Keep Doing What is Right for YOUR DOBIE. I Am and Will Continue to Do for My Creed.

I've had dogs who had one ear, substantially weaker than the other and that ear, being persistent, did finally stand. But one of the those dogs with a weak ear went to shows with one ear posted, taken down just before he went in the ring and reposted as soon as he didn't need to go back in the ring for anything. He had points before that one ear stood but it did stand--finally!

My boy had the same experience as Bug describes above. His left ear didn't completely stand on its own until he was about a year and a half. He finished his championship at 11 months.
