Duchess's Breeder?

2274 Views 22 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  TracyJo
You guys seem to be more familiar with breeders and which ones are more reputable then others...I'm pretty sure Duchess's breeder is very good...she is popular in the area...been with Dobes her whole life I believe. Owns a training facility etc...passionate about the breed...and did everything for Duchess's and the other puppies ears...flew someone in to crop the ears...
If I told you guys Duchess's breeder ,...I was wondering if you guys could tell me if you heard of her...or possibly do some research that I don't know where to find it...She has a website for her training facility but I don't believe she has one for her breeding..although her name and some of her dogs come up on google searches for confromation shows...But some people say its a good idea to keep their breeder private...????why is that???

Beats me. If you post the name I can tell you if I've heard of her or not. I guess if you want more info than that, it might be better if people wrote you privately, because you already have a dog from her, it's not like you're looking for advice on who to buy a dog from.

If you want private opinions of your breeder, then I think that is ok. There are some very high volume breeders that are pretty much fair game.
I put my dogs full names in my signiture - It is pretty easy to figure out their breeders ...or at least Louise's. Velma's is a much smaller breeder and is not a known name.....I don't have anything bad to say about either of them - good people!
Okay well then I busted out Duchess's AKC stuff...and
The sire is: CH Traditions Red Son, WAC
The dam is: Smack-Dabs's Liberty, UAGI
Duchess is: Smack-Dab's Midsummer Night
We know both the owners of the dam and the sire...got to meet the mom along with all the other dobes that were owned by each of them. My dad works with someone who shows Am Staff's and they reccommended the breeder and they are right around where we live. If you need the name of the breeder to find out more...let me know...
We took duchess to the breeders training facility for obedience and agility and talked to the owner of the sire alot just not about what everything means or how breeders are compared to others...etc..The owner of the dam I believe are new to Smack Dab's and also went to training with us. they are good people
Duchess is a GREAT dog, she is still young so she still young and I love her build and everything else about her and she has had great health so far...(she is only 2) it would just be nice to know either more about the history and awards...etc...for the future dobes I plan on having :) and I don't know much about how to go about researching and about the awards etc...Im sure many others can benefit from the posts about learning how to go about the research and what everything means.
Thanks :)

Ch. Traditions Red Son was the Winner's Dog at the 2002 DPCA National Specialty. That means he was the only male who won points towards his championship there. The entry at our National is always very large, so even winning a class there is a big deal.

I'm not 100% sure, but I *think* he might have won an Award of Merit at one of the Nationals after that...10 are awarded every year for dogs the judge considers "Superior Quality Specimens".

The Doberman Digest frequently has ads for Smack-Dab dobermans. Seems to me they're very active in agility..that's about all I know about them.
I'm sure many of us know of your breeder although I don't know her personally. She has had some tremendous success in the performance sports. Duchess's sire is a lovely male. I'm not familiar with her mom.

I'm not sure what you're asking, really. It seems you did choose a good breeder! From what I can tell, Duchess's breeder is one that pays attention to conformation, health, temperament, longevity and working ability.
Thank you so much guys... I was just asking because to me getting Duchess just seemed like the right recommendation and they had a litter at the right place and right time...only having to travel 10 min to see the pups...just seemed to easy...you know? and everyone always talks about how if you get a dobe or any dog from a breeder to make sure its a good one...
Im sure my parents just trusted their friends recommendation...contacted them...met and talked with them...but not knowing for sure myself made me kinda curious ...with my age and stuff I am new to the Doberman world and you guys all seem so knowledgeable that I figured I'd ask if you heard of them so that I know when I'm older if I should go back to own another Dobe from them later on in my life.
Are there any good sites online that you find this stuff out...so I could learn more? you guys probably find out alot from going to shows and getting handouts and booklets and brochures? I have gone to the AKC site...but not too sure on how to navigate much out of it...
I see you mention a Doberman Digest...I'll probably type that in the computer right now see what comes up online...
There is a useful site online called Dobequest. It belongs to the DPCA. Here is the URL: http://www.dobequest.org/

Go there, and then click on the Visitor's button at the left. On the right then there will be a Search Dobequest button. Click on the alphabetical link above that and click on the letter T. Then scroll down until you come to the name of Duchess's father. Click on that and it will take you to his page.

I went there and saw that he not only has a conformation championship but quite a few performance titles also.

In the middle of the page are a row of buttons. One says Photo. Click on that and it will show you a photo of Duchess's father; he is called "Bubba". Click on the button marked Pedigree and it will show his pedigree.

You can trace those dogs back by clicking on their names if you want to. Not all dogs are in this database altho they're adding more all the time. Duchess's mother is there but there isn't any picture or other info about her yet.
oh awesome thanks guys! this helped me alot
LD,
I just did a quick yahoo search of Smack-Dab Dobes and came up with a picture of their bitch "Trix" wow, she's gorgeous. If she's an example of what they normally produce, well, that explains where Duch got her good looks :)
your breeders name is kathy faye, and from what i hear from those who know her, they really like her :)

she is very involved in performance sports and ibelive agility is her venue of choice, though i know some of her dogs have done obedience as well, and at least a few have dabbled in schutzhund i think.
We did training with her at her place when duchess was young. we had a great experience loved the agility loved the obedience...we loved all the other dobes there. My mom just got pretty upset when Coco had his skin problem in the summer and her and another person kept saying it was mange when we went to two vets (one of them was the same vet she goes to) and they both said it was just allergies and didnt even bring up that it might be mange or offer a skin scrape. (its gone now since it was winter)
She is a great person though and now that I know for sure I can definatly recommend Smack Dabs when I meet people looking for a dobe. In another post she is the person who I said I THINK has alot of male dogs...I don't know how she does it lol I just see all there kennels lined up at the training facility with their names. Seperate them all? or is it possible they might get along?
at the training facility all the dobes there had the best personality it was the border collies who started trouble ;) haha. we will probably go back for agility there someday my mom really liked it there.

Nice to know that you went to a reputable breeder for your first Doberman! I don't know the breeder, but I also have seen their ads in Doberman Digest. They have a lot of performance titled Dobes out there.

Ch. Traditions Red Son, CD, RN, WAC, ROM (how's that for a title update?) is owned by two friends of mine and lives right here in town with me. Bubba's a sweet dog, and a big leaner.
WOW! That really changed! lol I don't know what they all mean...but I know each one is a good thing lol.
Can someone run me through what they stand for? I have heard of CD...
Thats awesome that your friends own him! I'm in Illinois. Where are you about?
So I think we are going to go back to the smack dabs training place for agility Duchess misses it soooo much! It will be weird and awkward at first but I'll just say Coco is fine, it was just allergies and they went away at the start of winter...ya da ya da ya da...But guess what?! IM going to be running her through everything for classes! My mom use to always do it but she now can focus on the obedience the agility part was always pretty confusing to her...as to everyone that is a beginner...
I always never wanted to run duchess through the agility before because I was always afraid she will pass me up! lol and say "GOSH WHATS YOUR PROBLEM YOUR SOOOO SLOW! lol" now she listens better and is a bit more patient.
Here are some titles ROM Register of Merit, Cd Companion Dog, WAC Working Aptitude Cerf. and RN not sure. Maybe some of the others would know.

Just to expand on this a little more: WAC means the dog has passed the DPCA temperament evaluation. A dog with a WAC who also has earned a conformation championship and a performance title (obedience, agility, rally, etc.) becomes a ROM.
I'm in Cincinnati. Bubba's owners and breeder and I are in the same DPCA Chapter Club.
