I went through the same crap. I found a policy that let me have them both for about $35 a month. (State Farm) I don't think Dobermans were on our blacklist eaither. But They still made us pay extra.

I have heard I will need to insure any doberman I put through Schutzhund. Or the local club won't take me. I have to look into this more. I don't know much about it.

I have Erie and I can't find anything on their web site about dogs. I always believed you could be sued if you didn't have up a "Beware of Dog" sign and someone broke and was bitten. Guess it's a good I never got around to picking any of those up. I think I'll look into a Doberman at Play sign. Reese would put up a big fuss if someone was outside, but I'm not sure what he would do if they came into the house. If they had a treat he'd probably point out the valuables. Does anyone know any statistics on lawsuits? What are the chances of someone winning a lawsuit if they broke into a home and were bitten and/or seriously injured?
I always thought you needed a sign too...The chances of someone braking in and then sueing for being bitten are great. I heard of a man that broke into an old ladies home and hurt himself on somthing and sued and won. Basically if the policy does not have a cndition to its payout for liabilty, then they can take you to small claims court. Sickning eh?

There is all kinds of that crap in laws. We were broken into 2 years ago. Lost about $4,000 in stereo, Xbob, games and DVD's. and also some of my husbands tools. They never caught the person, Though some of the stuff turned up at the pawn shop a few weeks later. I asked the cop who investigated if I could shot someone braking in to my home and his reply was..."Not unless they pose pysical harm to you or your family." Well How the heck would you know? Someone brakes in late at night, and you can't see them...or don't know if they have a weapon? He also said that if the person did NOT have a weapon and we shot them, that we would be in deep ****. as he has no way to pose harm...I don't know. I guess criminals can do what they want. This was a partial reason to my buying the girls. I really don't feel safe anymore. Sad. Sad. Sad.

When you or someone else has the insurance it is usally covered under the policy. First the insurance company has to be aware that you own a dog though. Or they will not pay out. Hoome insurance covers all kinds of injuries that people may obtain whil on your property. Slip and Falls, and all that jazz. If your dog bites someone while they are in your home, eaither your insurance pays, or you will be sued. If they want to press it.
