Doberman Ignorance + Future Inlaws

Well drove to Houston this weekend so my fiance could say good-bye to his dying grandmother in the hospital but his family is a big dog family so we brought Alice along. Well last night my fiances aunt went on and on about how pretty Alice is. She asked if I had papers I told her yes, she then went on to tell me about a doberman she had some 10 or 20 years ago and how well bred it was and everything. However the next thing out of her mouth almost made me laugh in her face. She said ,"She was from that HUGE line of WARLOCK DOBERMANS". I just nodded like I had no idea what she was talking about. Then my future father-in-law who i normally adore went on to tell me that he tan markings were to tan and that he didn't care what her papers said she wasn't a pure bred because pure blooded dobermans can only have very dark dark blood red markings not tan. Then he went on to argue with me and insist that is was HITLER and not Karl Doberman that originally bred them. UGGHH i just had to go to sleep I was so frustrated I will not be bringing up dobermans around them EVER AGAIN! sorry needed to vent

Hahaha oh yes, Hitler, dontcha know? Leader of the Nazis and dog fancier/creator of Dobermans! Considering Dobermans came around about a year after Hitler was born, I'd say he was a very ambitious infant!

I know i was like are you seriously arguing this point with me. I told him about Karl Dobermans Job and why he bred them and what use he intended them for his response was , " he saw the viciousness in the miniature pincher so he bred them up to be vicious war dogs" !!!! omg! I just lost my IQ points just listening to you lol.

Hahaha wow! I think that's the best one I've ever heard! One time I had my friend tell me that min-pins came from Dobermans and they just bred them smaller and smaller until they got min pins. I couldn't keep my mouth shut on that one since min pins came before Dobermans and the two breeds aren't related in the slightest!

I also hate it when people tell me my girl is "too small" or "too skinny" and talk about the King and Warlock Dobermans they used to have growing up. Ugh, it amazes me how ignorant people can be!

TRULY! like have you ever heard of Google go learn something before you spout off. And most people get confused they think it was the min pin that was used to create dobermans . It was really the German pincher that is in between the twos size and they crossed it with a few other breeds. But people just don't do the research and assume the German pincher and the min pin are the same thing.

You can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink. Neither can you change the mind of someone who knows it all. This I have come to learn.

From what I recall Louis Doberman was a tax collector who got a bit miffed at being robbed etc so he bred a dog that would take care of him and command respect, he mixed Rottweiler with Manchester Terrier and a couple of something else, (identities of which escapes me at the mo). That wonderful man (sarcasm) Hitler saw the breed and decided he would breed it to be a killer dog and so started a breeding programme designed to make the breed more aggresive etc. It has taken since the war for dedicated Doberman fans to rectify the damage he did to the breed. Alas it may take as much time again for us to be able to change the null brain attitude of some folk as to the true nature of a Dobe.

Just smile sweetly and buy him a book on Dobermans for Christmas.

Now hang on a second. You forget that the Manchester Terrier is also a small doberman, that the Gorden Setter is just one with long hair and that the Dachshund is a dwarfed version. I mean, it couldn't be possible to be black & tan (or rust) and not be a doberman or an ancestor or derived from dobes.

Not to forget that there are Some American Cockers with Doberman blood or maybe they were the forebears of dobes? Gee, I have a red & tan Kelpie, maybe she is just a dobe in disguise.

Also, the Internet lies, so looking stuff up on the web is just feeding the people who make up stories about people called Louis Doberman - like they would name a dog after person, really? No, it is definitely a Hitler Dog. I wonder why they didn't name it that given that Hitler was such a great dog breed creator and all that.

Thanks, my weekend is off to a good start. :)

{snip}...[my future FIL's] response was, " [Hitler] saw the viciousness in the miniature pincher so he bred them up to be vicious war dogs" !!!! omg! I just lost my IQ points just listening to you lol.
I am astounded that someone (your future FIL) so knowledgeable about the breed didn't warn you about your Dobe's brain growing too large for its skull, to the point where the dog will turn on you and rip your face off. Because it's really, completely, honest-to-doG, 100% true!!!

Ditto this. Something with lots of candid pix in color of Dobes being goofy and snuggling with children.

And give your future MIL a calendar from a Doberman Rescue group.

Best of luck with your educational campaign.:wavey:

When I got Dakota, who's a mix, (and pretty small lol ) the general concensus from family was "Why would you get that vicious dog, they turn on their owners" and "Is it going to be safe with my kids?" lol...

Check out the vicious killer, she's about to eat them!! oh noez!!

@Kenya - He did he told me that they were worse than my pit bulls and they turn on their owner faster than any other dog..!

And about 5 min ago I got a lecture on How "I told you is was an 80% chance both her ears would stand I had a great dane thirty years ago and only one of his ears stood"

OK HER EARS HADN'T BEEN TAPED IN OVER A MONTH! I just got the supplies again so they were up 4 only 5 days and I took them down yesterday and one is still standing But i cant tape them back up cause one got a cut and I have to let it heal I kept trying to explain to them that With repeat taping they will stand you just have to be patient but he wouldn't listen im so frustrated and so flabergasted by these misconceived notions.

SATANS PINCHERS more like. ]
And haven't you heard they can get out of compounds with 2 metre high fences without mum who is always with them knowing, so maybe it should be HOUDINI'S PINCHERS.

Hey this could be the start of something

Instead of trotting in the conformation ring, they'd have to goose-step. And when stacked, they'd have to hold their right front leg up in a Nazi salute. Also, the standard would have to be changed to make it a disqualification if the dog doesn't click its hocks together when the judge approaches for the hands-on exam. :hehe:

You bring up an excellent point. I guess we'll just have to use albinistic Dobes to create our master breed, the Hitler Pinscher. ;)

Napoleon Pinchers...
Bin Laden Pinscher: Dobe crossed with Afghan Hound; lack of long, gray-streaked beard is a disqulification.
Mussolini Pinscher: Dobe crossed with a rabid Italian mastiff; must be completely shaved for conformation showing.
Napoleon Pinscher: Dobe crossed with a French Bulldog suffering from Small Dog Syndrome; bathing it within three days before conformation showing is a disqualifying fault.

-------------------------
Before I get into trouble...I'm not implying the French are dirty. I'm referring to something Napoleon is alleged to have written in a letter to his wife, Josephine Beauharnais: "Je reviens en trois jours, ne te laves pas!" ("I return in three days; don't bathe.")

That's pretty funny about the min-pin and the Doberman. Here's a photo of Audrey the Dobe with MiMi the min-pin (who belongs to my son). Of course people who don't know much about dogs would think they are related....same body type and markings. :D MiMi is a real spitfire dominatrix.
