If my pup (12 weeks old) is napping during the time that he should be going out for a potty break do I let him sleep or wake him up? He is going out on a regular schedule of 2.5 hours (plus the normal stuff like after a nap, after eating, when he asks or is sniffing around in the house like he needs to go). He is a champ at night and sleeps for 5-6 hours without needing a break, so I dont wake him up at night.

I kinda feel like I should know the answer to this already...perhaps puppy potty patrol at 4am is making me a bit foggy. Feedback welcome :)

Here is his pic, his name is Kaiser:

codobegirl - I congratulate you on your boy and the potty training success.
Like you, I believe one trip outside in the middle of the night, is key.
Just so happened, my pup came in Feb. with snow on the ground....Burrrrrr !!
Beaumont67 -- I have been off the boards for quite some time, so just saw your comment and it made me laugh. Kaiser got to see his first snow ever last month and he was NOT having it! I had to lure him outside with treats to go potty. He is such a little diva LOL

I would let him sleep a full night sleep and and in the morning he will have grown bigger. Lol
Hehe you couldnt be more right! I think he gains a pound each night!

This post is rather old, I have been off the boards for several weeks, and I am happy to report that Kaiser is now fully potty trained! Accidents are now very very rare and if it does happen, its always cos mommy or daddy screwed up somehow ;-)

PS. Your Nubis is super cute!

:chillin: I would not like to go out in the snow to potty so why would they? LOL!!! This will be my 4 mos. old first winter. I'm lucky, we have a dog door and she watched the other dogs use it and now she does. (fenced yard) Not one accident since. Glad u got him potty trained. Makes life so much nicer !!!
I love the little icon!

And I have to agree, I feel so bad making him go out in the cold to potty! I have spent some time up in the Rockies camping in snow and I can attest that it is not pleasant LOL.

Potty training feels like an eternity, so yah life is MUCH nicer!

Your guy looks pretty good too, looking at those boxing glove paws, I think he is going to be big. I like Kaiser as a name!!!
When my better half suggested Nubis's name and we researched its various meanings, it gave me the chills. Prior to getting Nubis, i dreamed and will work hard that i can get him at a level to visit elderly people. When i discovered the Name and that Anubis can be considered the God of Death (one who prepares the living for the dead), i went bam, that's his name. As that ultimately will be one of his working roles, to bring happiness and a smile to elderly ppl close to death. He still has a long long way to go, but i have worked this out in my mind for many years, now we are building the blocks to get him there, plus he still has to learn to pray. lol
Wish me luck,
Yes..he looks like he is wearing his daddy's boots around. ha That is so cool you are going to get Nubis into eldercare work if you can! I do wish you much luck, its something I have always wanted to do since my own grandmother was in a hospice for a while and a service dog came for a visit. I got to witness first hand the power of the pup and it was beautiful! So his name sounds quite fitting for that kind of work! Not to mention its just a cool name for a big black dog :)

We settled on Kaiser after many iterations...that is another thread to start isnt it? "How did you come to name your dog what you named them", I always find the back stories on this board so interesting!
