I'm no expert on cropping but after they are cropped, the usually get the shriners hat and the ears are taped to the cup, because the ears need to heal a bit before they are posted. Did the vet give you the details about the whole process or steps to go through and what to expect. I guess there can be many ways the ears can heal, I mostly saw the cup used and not taped to the head after they are cropped.

I've only seen the 'coffee cup' method - have a pic of Java and her 10 sibs - looks like a Shriner's convention! But I'm not an expert you may want to obey the vet's instructions to the letter. The DPCA site has a booklet you can order about taping. My breeder was available to help with the initial taping so I didn't bother to order one.

it isnt normal for puss to be coming out but there will be a bit of clear drainage it is a wound. If it smells or seems at all yellow, green or other colored the pup needs to be seen other wise it is okay :D...

Neo is great.. put some on there it will also help with it drying and some of the scabs pulling off if the pup runs into something and it bleeding helps keep moisture in and bacteria OUT!

that would make a great Neosporin commercial. A doberman pup and Neosporin what an idea.

Once the ears start to scab and there is no sign of any clear liquid as the scabs form, you may want to pick up some Vitamin E gel tablets (400 ml size?). Generic brand is fine. Pierce the end of the tablet and squeeze the Vit E onto the scabbed edges - it keeps the tissue soft and helps the scab slough off and the new skin grow in more quickly. You might want to have someone hold the 'empty' tablet and let puppy lick at it to distract him/her while you apply the Vit E to the ears. Dogs love the gel (must be fish-oil based) and it won't do puppy any harm to ingest what's left in the tablet or on your fingers.

I now use Vit E tablets whenever Java has a small scar, really helps the healing process - that is, provided she hasn't gone and licked it off....!
