I am new to this forum. I am a PhD medical geneticist interested in hearing and vision disorders. I had heard that some dobermans had a special type of deafness and I am interested in tracing their lineage. The hearing loss would be almost total and would have been present the first year (probably earlier). In addition they would have vestibular problems, perhaps by head tilting or tossing and maybe odd circling behavior. This would NOT be the kind of deafness that goes along with pigmentary problems, like the albino or merle genes.
Any information that would help me to identify such dogs and to acquire pedigree information about them would be appreciated.

I would look more into both Wobbler's Syndrome as well as Dancing Doberman Disease (Distal Polyneuropathy, I think?).

Welcome to DT! Will be great to see your progress on this research! :)
