Anyone with information on this breeder? “Melissa” states she has every puppy sold for the next 2 years. And is breeding every bitch on each heat cycle. Limited health testing. Her website includes Dobermans from well known breeders. Do they know she is a puppy mill?

Hi Respecting. Welcome from the Pacific NW.

So... Maybe I am missing something.

Why do you say they are a puppy mill? They are on the DPCA breeders list. A cursory check of their website explains that they produce about one litter a year. Their list of heath tests they perform on the sire and dam is pretty darn complete. The puppies are temperament tested at 7 weeks. And without looking at specific pedigrees, many of the Dobermans they list in their breeding program are titled dogs and bitches from known and reputable breeders.

Finally, the statement: "We welcome our “family” of Dobermans back for boarding, puppy reunions, training and dog walks", implies a commitment to future owners of their puppies that I personally find not to be an earmark of a puppy mill.

I don't know this breeder at all and have never heard of them, but unlike many websites out there, I see no real red flags on theirs.

The only thing that I might question is that, at this time, very few of their dogs appear to have titles before their names.

So... What am I missing?

It used to be considered a red flag to breed bitches back to back, but now most repro specialists are saying it's better for the dog if you breed with every cycle (if they recovered well from the last one) and retire them early.

The number to look at is how many litters each individual dog has before she is retired, and how many litters a breeder has a year, or on the ground at the same time.
