Melamine-tainted corn gluten confirmed
by Goldy, 04/19/2007, 11:19 AM

Melamine-tainted corn gluten, imported from China, has been confirmed in South African pet food:

Johannesburg - Tests have confirmed that Vets Choice and Royal Canin dog and cat dry pet-food products contained corn gluten contaminated with melamine, says the manufacturer.

The contaminated corn gluten was delivered to Royal Canin by a South African third-party supplier and appears to have originated from China.

What we have here is a pattern, and there is absolutely no reason to assume that it is limited to the pet food and animal feed markets. Wheat gluten, corn gluten and rice protein concentrate are all used to supplement the protein content of both animal and human food, and all three have now been found to be contaminated with melamine. Three different Chinese manufactures have now apparently been implicated.

UPDATE:
During a conference call today, the FDA confirmed that melamine-tainted pet food was reprocessed and fed to hogs. People eat hogs.

Good lord, this is sickening. That does it, everyone is getting switched this week coming to raw food. Doesn't do much for the "people" in the house, but at least my pets will be safer. None of the foods I feed have corn in them, but at this rate it doesn't matter, there is going to be something wrong with something in the food eventually.

*chuckles* yup I just just made a ham two nights ago....
Really makes you wonder if the Pet foods have been contaminated for a very long time. Over the years I have had several friends who lost young dogs to Renal Failure.

This sort of stuff makes me sick to my stomach.

Reprocessing and feeding to hogs... yeah that was a "grape pop and corndog" idea wasn't it?

What is this world coming to :(
Can you post the source link for that info please?

And we have porksteaks, pork roast and brauts in the freezer. (stocking up for the barbecue season)
I`m beginning to think nothing is safe.

That's funny. I guess with a name like that, you can put - All these recalls can blow it out your-in front of it.

Nice. I wonder who the brain surgeon was behind that decision.

This is some really scary stuff going on.

That is too funny. I`m rolling here. Just finding a site with a name like that is something else.

Here is a site that we all know that now says the same thing.

Go organic!!!!
I do use organic as much as possible. However, sometimes (mainly pig farmers) have run off that gets into growing crops than we get ecoli (thats spelled wrong sorry)
No matter what you can`t win.
Maybe our backyard we should be farming instead of growing grass.
Of course than we wouldn`t have as much free time to play with our dogs.:)

LOL! At first I thought you were being sarcastic and then I realized that's a real web address, haha.

It seems like something shady is going on here... It doesn't make sense that the Chinese would add melamine to try to increase the protein content in the food. I mean, didn't they realize that melamine would be toxic? It's just so strange...
People are getting so freaked out by this..............listen to this!!

There is a post on another forum that is claiming Al Quiada controls the import/export of china, and has purposely caused this. (it was made about 8:30 this morning and didn't have any responses the last I seen it)

While I think this post is kooky, I do agree that this is a crazy situation going on here that just don't add up!!
