My male did horrible on that kibble. It has 4 protein sources so is not good for some dogs, it was awful for one of mine. Overall, I think it is a quality kibble.

Two of my dogs are on it. Rocket hasn't had any further hot spots since being switched to Canidae, and Halley (a GSP) is on it for incontinence. I was hoping no corn, no wheat, no soy would help her out. I'm not sure that it does help her but it did help my old girl Ember who also was incontinent for a little while before she passed away.

IMO, it's a quality kibble.

My girl has been on it for over a year and she is doing great on it. Its weird that its not as expensive as the other kibble at the caliber. I think its a rally good kibble. They have come out with a chicken one now and I think that they also have another one coming that does not contain 4 protien sources. We tried the chicken but it wasn't a big hit.

My guys eat the Canidae. They love it to pieces. That is their favorite time of the day. They seem to be doing well on it and look great IMO.

I've always heard good things on it, I personally feed Eagle Pack, but give Felidae (cat version) to the feline pack and fosters here, and LOVE it :) Turns around the coats and stools on my strays that come in, in no time.
I would feed it to my canine pack also, but I've had such great luck with Lexus on Eagle Pack.

Chi and Petri do better on Canidae than anything else we've tried. Their coats are great, their stools are perfect, their gas isn't nearly as bad (most important attribute imo :) ) I do occassionally have to switch them over to Nutro (can only buy Canidae at an off base, local pet shop who frequently gets late shipments) and although they do pretty good on the Nutro, I notice they puke bile quite a bit when they're on it (most often right after I've shampooed the cream colored carpet in the living room).

Princess started out on Canidae, and was on it for about a year and did well on it. For some reason she stopped liking it and wouldn't eat as much as I would like her to. She has been on raw since and loves it. Overall Canidae is a great premium dog food.

I thought I saw that some of you fed this food to your dogs. What is you opinion on it?
I think it is a good kibble and I tried it for Velma a couple of years ago, but she did not care for it. I ended up feeding her California Natural Chicken and Rice and am now in the process of switching her over to Evo. Louise is on Evo and doing well - she likes it better than the Cal natural. Velma will eat anything so I'm going to see how she does on Evo. Life is much easier when they eat the same kibble.

My guys love Canidae and are doing well on it. I like that it is an all lifestage and no switching from puppy to adult so on and so forth. People are telling me all the time what great shiny coats they have!

I am about to switch Maggie from Pro Plan puppy to Canidae. I have also thought about Natural Balance. Its base ingredient is whole meat instead of meal like Canidae.
It was my understanding that meal is often better as an ingredient than whole meat? From what I have read meal is preferred because it doesn't include water. So when ingredients are listed by weight, there is always less whole meat than meal. For example if a first ingredient is meat and the second a grain, that food is going to be signficantly more grain based, than one who's first ingredient is meal.

Can anyone clarify this maybe? I'm in no way an expert. I've been doing a lot of reading on nutrition and such after getting my blue dobe, and wanting her coat to be the best it can. So any insight would be helpful.

Canidae is a decent product, there are a lot of high end products out their now, that one can shop around and find what best suits their dog.
I have had Canidae for two dogs great stools, glossy coat, nice weight, two other dogs no not suitable at all, no weight gain, to much stool you think I had a cow in the back yard and it was not from overfeading, whatever went in came out, due to this they were always hungry. I don't think it was hitting their body needs. coat not so great. Look at good quality foods see how the dog is on it and take it from their yeh or neh. Good luck.
