Can a Doberman have too long of a show crop Buddy will be 1 year old in April he ears still seem too long to me. On the other hand Buddy is my first Doberman guess he may need to fill out more? When do they get all of their height?not sure if Buddy is done growing in height.

You and I are worried about the same thing! Peteys ears are HUGE!

Having seen his mom, dad and his older sister....all of them had great ears that fit their heads perfect! Our pups heads will get massive too....I think they will continue to grow and fill out until 18 months. My vet said that the crazy growing that Petey is doing right now will slow down at 7 or 8 months, so he has quite a lot of growing to do....and when I expressed my concern for his HUGE ears....the vet said....he will grow in to them!!!

^^we hate the whole posting thing too....Petey doesn't seem to mind one bit. He only tries to get them off when its time to change them. I'm hopeful we can be done with this by the time he is 6 months. I love seeing him with the posting off....he is sooooo damn CUTE!

Haha, I know exactly what you mean. When I was posting Rommels ears (he had to be posted until he was around 7 months old) I just couldnt wait to get the posts off so I could see the progress we had made, and he looked so cute with them off, like a mini doberman with really big ears.

I didnt have to tape Ziris long at all, like a month. But hers arent near as long as Rommels. I kind of wish now I would have gone with a longer crop, but at the same time, it is really nice not to worry about will they stand......how much longer........oh there is a crease here......oh is that a pocket......blah blah.

Anyway, dont worry about his ears, he will grow into them, I think they look nice.

Maybe this will make you feel better

Here is Rommel at 6 months to the day

Here is Rommel at 7 months

10 months

In February

They just kind of slowly start filling out, and you dont even notice the ears being long.

edited to add: Also, I saw the parents of your boy, and I think Petey will be larger than Rommel, so they will be fine.

Thanks you sometimes get to wondering, but sorta scary them growing into such big ears makes you wonder just how big they will get.Seems like Dobermans are not medium sized dogs anymore like the breed standard calls them big dog is what I would call most of them.
