We were and out early I took Buddy on a 2 hour walk this time went to the Park by our house.
Then this evening I threw
the ball for about 30 minutes for Buddy when i went out about an hour & half later to feed him he had started eating the Bamboo shade I had put up on the Patio to shade his water more, he also has water out under the shade tree.
Have been thinking of just keeping Buddy on a leash tied to my waist so he cannot be out of my sight at all that way he cannot eat anything. In the morning maybe I will walk him 4 hours I determined to tire him out some way some how. I keep telling myself a Tired dog is a Good dog but do not think it works with Dobes.

Im starting to think there are two kinds of dobes lol the party kind...always on the go wants to play play play in and out of the house...everything is a game and then the type that duchess is where she is like a chameleon to your lifestyle...completely relax in the house...play outside....sleep when you sleep...wakeup whenever you wake up lol.
Two kinds of Dobes good theory I can guess which one I have, you know the energizer bunny on TV it should not be a bunny should be a Dobe.

I didn't know that type existed. I hate you for bringing it to my attention. :)

I am sorry he is going through such a rebelious stage for you patches. Hopefully if you keep plowing forward he will come around to your way of thinking soon.

I can honestly say that Orson is begining to be the seconde type! He has always slept when we sleep (never needed to be crated over night) but now he is starting to show signs of calming down and following my requests without "arguing back" as much.............NOT 100%, but progress is progress :)
Hang in there. Buddy is the type dog that you will learn more from than any other dog you have ever had and when it all comes togeather (usually around 2) you will be so proud.
I love reading your posts as I had a Sadie that was like your Buddy. I learned so much from her and she turned out great.:)

eph94 and I apparently suffered from the same delusion. My Blade is not a dog that ever blends into his surroundings. (even when hes asleep he snores). My wife simply refers to him as "the Brat". We adore him, but my goodness he can be a handful.

I agree with alwaysshadpets that we can learn so much from these "handfuls" of ours. Besides being my first dobe, Blade is also my first rescue, so we have dealt with some more serious issues like resource guarding etc that I have never experienced previously. It is so satisfying now to see him so well adjusted (even sharing bones with my other dogs) and I expect that as he matures I may be the more proud of him than any dog I have had before.

Hang in there PatchesMom, it sounds like you are doing all the right things and as he matures you will reap the benefits of all of your hard work.

I'm sure Buddy will calm down. Tia (9 months) has 'good' days and 'bad' days - angel v devil!! When she's in devil mode I try and smile through gritted teeth and tell myself she's only a baby - this train of thought helps keep me sane! I have to say though that the 'angel' days are getting much more frequent - thank goodness!
When Mavis was Buddy's age she was at least as wild and crazy as Buddy is now. I was wondering if I could give her back to the people I got her from because she was so destructive and disruptive.

But before long she turned into The Best Doberman Ever, she just needed time to cool her jets.

After a while, other Doberman owners looked at Mavis and said they wished THEIR Dobies were as calm as Mavis was.
All I can say is this....:devil_1: = *******.

You are not the only one if it makes you feel any better!!!

How's this for a trial by fire? Not only is Harley our first Dobe and our first rescue, but he's our first DOG of any kind! I feel like *I've* grown up incredibly over the past 9 1/2 months. His baggage (also resource guarding) forced me to work with Harley more than I ever would have expected (how about 14 weeks of obedience classes among other things). The result, of course, is he's becoming an awesome companion. And if it's true about the males getting their brains around the age of 2, then I'm just six months away. Woo hoo!
Was rain ing this morning so did not get to walk so this evening I walked his butt off he actually came home laid over on his side. of course it only lasted about 5 minutes. I'm going to keep walking his butt off every chance I get we went over by Lowe's,Reasors grocery store,Target & Sears then walked around the neighbor hood.Next month when we go for a nail trim he may not need one will see what his Mom(breeder) thinks about his toe nails.
Oh is it ok if Buddy runs a little bit like when we are crossing the street know he is not suppose to be running due to the growth plate thing but do not want to get run over either.

Wow, you really jumped in with both feet! :) Thats like trying to learn a second language by moving to another country. Its great for Harley that you have had such determination. Good for you both!
I have found that getting Tia to use her beautiful little brain tires her out as much (if not more) than walking her legs off. I was told by my trainer not to walk her too much in her first year due to her growing but to really work her brain by training etc and we found it works. We obviously walk her aswell but not for hours and hours each day but we do try and keep her as active as possible in other ways also.
hope it gets better.. that is why we have the treadmill...LOL
