Hi,
I've just got an 8 week old doberman puppy, when I got her from a reputable dog breeder I knew that she had flat feet. However her front legs buckle inwards at the knees. Can I correct this?
I am feeding her Pro Plan, which has 28% Protein, I mix this with beef mince, chicken or egg.
She doesn't limp (other than being so clumsy, she trips on on air..haha), so she's not in any pain.
Would love to hear your thoughts, advice and/or experiences regarding flat feet and buckled knees.

Thanks, for your reply. This is my first day on this site and I'm still finding my way around. I think I replied to your answer in the wrong place (sorry). I'll put a pic of her front legs on my gallery, I hope that is the right place to put it so you can view it. If not, let me know and I'll try and put it in the right place :)

I have a really hard time believing that a reputable breeder sent this girl home in this condition without ears cropped etc. I really hope your breeder is giving you the support you need right now and working with you to correct this quickly with diet.

I wish you and your beautiful girl the best of luck and I hope you get her legs straightened out quickly!

Ripley started knuckling over as a puppy, too. Our vet advised us to stop feeding puppy food. He came to us started on a quality puppy food, and we were told to switch to adult or All Life Stages food by 4 months by the breeder, but we ended up switching sooner because of this problem. And we were also advised from our vet to supplement him with Vitamin C. He didn't knuckle over for long... I think only a few days, and corrected pretty quickly after making those diet changes. But the night it happened I remember calling my breeder in a panic -- fortunately she'd seen it before a long time ago so assured us that it wasn't too horrific of a problem, and she accompanied us to her vet to see if he had anymore insight as to what causes it or what we could do to stop or prevent it.

Hi i have an issue with my dog his name is rex he is 2 months old and i think he's knuckling i dont know what to do but i just want to help him anyone out there that can help me please response thanks
You could start your own thread about the situation and until then there are a lot of threads buried in the puppy section about knuckling over issues.

Until someone experienced can chime in why not gather up some photos to help answer your question.

My puppy was knuckling a little bit when I got her. I immediatly looked online and contacted her breeder. The breeder was helpful along with the Great Dane ladys advice about knuckling. My girl was switched to Wellness Adult (Chicken)(22% protein and 12%fat) with 1 fish oil cap a day and 1 vit C pill am/pm. She has knuckled 3 times in the month and a half Ive had her. But since starting this diet she has not knuckled. I tried to change to a different flavor of wellness and again she knuckled but I immediatly switched her back to Wellness Chicken and she has not knuckled since. I read on here that ONE 500mg Vit C 2X a day for puppies under 4 months. Then move it up to TWO 500mg Vit C 2X a day for older pups. Im going to keep her on the Vit C till her ears are completly healed as well as it provides a boost to the immune system.

Search Knuckling over on here and you can find good info.
Please post pics of your girls legs in this thread so we can see them :)

Search the Great Dane Lady's site. That site is WONDERFUL! I highly recommend Vit C with Rose hips and Vit D
Best of luck to you.

I would certainly look into the Great Dane Lady's knuckling-over nutrition program. My Dobe puppy was showing signs of knuckling over and I used the program. I would say that in about one week, he started showing huge improvements. It is a little expensive ($100 odd dollars) but I can vouch that the program worked for me.

you can my dog did that and i was worried . the dog food is too rich but use ekanuba large breed puppy my vet told me this i day is all it took and his legs looked normal. i feed him that brand for a couple of months then swiched him to a walmart nrand o roy which people think if it is not expensive it is not good no so i compared ingredients and the precentage. let me say puppy chow also has been around for many many years it is also a good food how ever

My puppy was knuckling while ON Eukanuba puppy food. I switched to Wellness. Do not change foods so much either that is one of the causes of knuckling in itself. Pick a brand that works and stay with it at least till a year old.
