This is a question for the experienced breeders out there. With a LIVE breeding, at what day, do you typically do an ultrasound? I have talked to several breeders that say you can ultrasound between 28-32 days.

Also, does it matter if you ultrasound at 28 days versus 32 days? I know at 32 days, we would probaly have a more accurate count.

Thanks in advance....:)

One of the owners of one of my puppies is a sonographer, and she was always pretty adamant that she preferred to do them at 32 days. That said, most breedings occur 2 or 3 or 4 times over the course of maybe a week so it's pretty hard to say what day you're doing it with any great accuracy in those instances.

Mary, my breeder is also adamant about 32 days, but I am being impatient and dying to know if she's pregnant. I would say at 32 days, the ultrasound would be more accurate as the puppies would be more developed.

I have had no luck with ultrasounds - they aren't accurate and I wouldn't waste my money :) Be patient and do an xray the week before she is due......

I only use the U/S to confirm pregnancy. My repro vet refuses to really try to count. She'll say "little" vs singlteon but that can still change later down the road. Personally I was too impatient to wait. I've only done AI and we did it 27-28 days.

I've done one as early as 28 and as late as 34 - just did one last night in fact! In this case, natural breedings were done Dec 27th and 29th - ultrasound on Jan 30th... which is a little later than normal but could not be avoided.

I also do not count on an ultrasound for an exact count - more of a good estimate at best. The later ultrasound was a better picture than the earlier one, and the repro specialist that did it said that there is a better chance that all the sacks she saw are viable as they are farther along.

I do an xray the week before the due date. In this case, litter due date is around February 26/27 and we are xraying on Feb 20th.

Is Suri gonna be a mommy? I won't press for details but hope you make an announcement here when the time is right. I like to keep abreast of what's out there.
Hey Cathy, I am waiting to confirm pregnancy before making an announcment.

We bred Lucius, CH Allure Dream Machine Alisaton to an Allure CH bitch. I will make an announcement when we confirm pregnancy around Valentines day.

And my Suri has not been bred yet, not sure yet if I will breed her or not due to the fact that I am very busy with school and work.

Hope you are doing well. I haven't seen you in awhile.

I'm still around; just in agility.

I look forward to the announcement. Since I have no interest personally in breeding, I like to live vicariously through others.:)
