Tasneem and Prince are babies... and they are driving me crazy... Prince constantly bites on tasneem when they are playing.... we shoot him with the water gun till we are out of water and he still hasnt learned.... i thought of spray bitter apple on her but i know she hates stuff being sprayed on her. he hurts her really bad sometimes... she yells and runs from him she trys to fight back but... it seems like she cant bite him hard unless he trips or something. i dont know what to do now. it is driving me crazy...

how do you break biting (play biting)?
or is it dominance? what is it. what can i do?

its a puppy thing, long as there is no blood ur alright, they learn from it so when they are older they know their bite temperment, and will help them later in live because they wont mouth as much

to me it sounds like you have a potentially, very good working dog, this play fighting is prey drive, I dont know if working him is what you want to do with him but if you dont he will do what he has to, to work his aggression out, I would start some rag work with him and do some mild bite work with him as well, to some this sounds crazy to teach a dog to bite but we must remember these are the only dogs that were Bred for the purpose of personal protection and even though many AKC show prancing breeders are trying to breed any working ability out of them sometimes Good Dobermans are still being born with that drive to work, I would really embrace his natural abilities and start some obedience and see what this little guy can do, he may impress you someday.

I could be wrong about his temperment, all puppies play fight, but if he is really working her he may have something to work with. Just my two cents.

and that is what i was thinking gunner... but wasnt sure. thanks so much

i agree with you kane... he isnt doing it like im gonna hold you down... he is always pushing her somewhere when he does this... she trys to bite him back but he always has her in the most ackwards places where she cant get to him. can you elaborate on how to do rag work and mild bite work.... and im not sure much about the working part of akc or the events... can ya help... we were gonna possibly do agility but like you said he is very much into the roots of the doberman with his biting... and that is why i was wondering if it was bad... thanks so much kane HUGS!!!!

not a big AKc show person... not only do the dogs prance 99.9% of the people are snobs :D

I would suggest if you are serious about wanting to do bite work with him you find a training club in your area and talk to some trainers. Bite sport can be tons of fun for a dog when he is given the proper training... However, when taught incorrectly it can be very dangerous. If you're not even sure of what rag work is, I'd strongly reccomend more research before starting to train him to bite.

Agreements with Elle. Maybe he would excel at it, just have an expert help you out as you are new at it too. It's like the blind leading the blind otherwise ( just a silly comparision) and if you are interested in learning you want to make sure you start him right way or you could be getting yourself into a whole heap of trouble......

I agree with those other comments too, You really should get him in Obediance and start finding a trainer, it is very hard to train without the right equipment plus you will have so much fun I guarentee you will get addicted to this especially if he shows real promise. there is nothing more exciting than seeing YOUR dog out there really working, you can watch a Doberman in SCH but until it is your dog there is no comparison. I dont compete with my Boy but I did train for Warehouse security and it is exciting to see a dog work but the feeling you get when YOUR personal dog is doing it is amazing you truely feel like you have accomplished something.

How much exercise do the kids get? Chihiro is about the same age as your kiddos and I can tell you if she doesn't get her daily walks and play times to wear her out she drives poor Petri crazy. I swear Petri would drink if he could LOL
I walk her a good 20-30 min twice a day at a pretty fast clip and then several games of fetch throughout the day and if I have time I take her to the tennis courts to run. She never completely wears out but she's alot less mouthy and rambunctous (sp) with Petri and YoYo the cat.
OR if she gets bored in the house she "attacks" Petri (now she doesn't really attack him but she bugs the hell out of him by being mouthy and pushing him to play). When she does that I will take an empty water bottle and put a handful of kibble in it, she'll knock it around the floor trying to get the kibble out and leave Petri alone (Petri is faster than she is and generally get the kibble so it's a game they both love :) Have to get a buster cube but I priced them at the pet shop over here last week and it was like $125.00, I'm sure I can order it cheaper though...

I read once that a happy Dobe is a tired Dobe. I have found this to be the most accurate statement ever.
Good luck

Diesel play fights with my 8-year old spaniel collie cross all the time, though bruno keeps him in check but it doesn't stop him. It always looks so aggressive the occasional nip that is slightly too hard but have never drawn blood. :boldblue:

Ah, Ava and Scoob go at it all the time. It would make me nervous when she was smaller because I was afraid he'd hurt her by wrestling but she's tough as nails(excuse the cliche) and nothing he would do would phase her. :boxing8:
