Adjustable blades rock! I second the Wahl rechargeable recommendation-the Wahl I have can either be used with the cord while it's charging or cordless-the ability to use it either way is a big plus with me.

I also have Oster rechargeable clippers with adjustable blades-I think it's an Arco model, something like that?

they look very good and the price is right ...Thank you ...!!!!
The Wahl Chromado is what I use everyday on feet, ears and faces. They hold up pretty well. I go thru one about every year and half and that is with daily use 4-6 dogs a day.
For my bigger jobs, I use an Andis 2 speed. I have had better luck with Andis than I did Osters. I use the Andis w/my clipper vac everyday also. Same with blades. Seems like the Andis stay sharper and last longer. Oster used to be the only clipper out there and it was a good clipper, but I think when they outsourced oversees, they lost the quality. I do believe they have brought those jobs back to the US. At least that's what they were saying two years ago at Super Groom in Vegas. Didn't go this year, becaused alot of the workshops were duplicates on what I had already been to several times. The others were stuff I am not interested in such as grooming cats without being tranq. and coloring dogs. It's a very good show to see all the new items that come out and it's all right there in one spot.

Well I just ordered the Wahl Chromando they said it will ship Monday ... and my TableWorks grooming table will ship Monday as well ,... Your right the option to go corded or cordless and the great reviews sold me.
I'll vote for the Wahl adjustable too but I prefer a cord model. I have a small one that usually is only sold in horse catalogs--they use them for shaving the face and ears. I've been using the same one for close to 15 years now but I'm generally only grooming one dog or at most two for show.

The vet clinic where I work has Andis, Oster and Laube. Most of them are cordless and capable of doing a fast recharge and none are adjustable--all have quick change blades.

The old Andis are the favored ones. But we got a couple of new ones which had a light--everyone quickly learned to hate them since the light feature obscured the view of the cutting field. We sent them back and made Andis send the non-lighted ones which were no longer in the catalog but were still being made. The Laube's are OK and so are the Osters but the one everyone gets out when they get a big dog who needs a lot of coat clipped down for surgery or a cat who can't be shaved without being knocked out (mostly pets in for lion cuts because they are all solid matts) is the old corded Oster. It's still the work horse.

I think that the next time we order clippers it'll be Wahl since our main surgical tech was watching me show trim one of my Dobes (so that I could use the lift table instead of sitting on the floor at home) and was really impressed at how quiet they were. She borrowed mine to shave the throat and head of a small hairy dog who was freaking out about the clipper noise and said we really needed a pair of those.

The blades for all of those (Andis, Oster, Laube and Wahl) in the large sized clippers are entirely interchangeable. The head tech says she doesn't see a lot of difference in the blades except that the ceramic ones seem to hold an edge marginally longer that the standard blade--any variety.

I use the Wahl Chromado which are cordless but you can also use them with the cord. I took them ringside with me recently at the Puget Sound Specialty and Kim Owen practically set up a grooming shop under our awning - apparently a number of Dobes showed up with little or no grooming! :)

My set came today and I couldn't wait .... I gave Bronson his first show groom in weeks... lol..... love this boy and those clippers..!!!

Thanks !!!!!!!!!!
ok so forgive my stupidity here, but what are you shaving on a dobe? the hair is already so short. Just curious. I know quite a bit about show grooming on Poodles but on Dobe's? I'm really curious, what exactly is the groom procedure for Dobe's' ringside?

The inside and edges of the ears. Muzzle and neck. Skirting. Belly and under tail. Back of hind legs if there are stray hairs. If the dog has nice pasterns, you can clipper up the back of the pastern to emphasize that.

Basically, you just want to clean up the outline and remove any hairs that stick out.

what blade # do you use? I'm just curious as to how you don't get lines when you shave their coats, a 10 or 15 would most definately leave lines I would imagine and a #30 would take off way too much down to the skin.

I use a 30 on their ears, a 10 blade for the rest. (Actually I use adjustable clippers, but this would be the equvalent).

For the most part, you're not pressing down to the skin-you're just lightly taking off anything that sticks out. You're not really shaving their coat. The exceptions are the belly, and under the tail. And the ears.

got it. thanks. So basically you are just blending with the 10. Thanks for explaining. I was confused about that one. lol.
I am a dog groomer I use andies 5 speed they are amazing just amazing i get so many compliments on how the dogs turn out
a 30 is typically used for areas as stated like ears and bellys that have no hair my vet uses a 30 or 40 to shave before surgery a ten wouldnt take of to much so long as you dont press down to hard
