Becoming a dobie owner in the near future :)
So we are in the current process of looking for a doberman cant tell you how long i have wanted one well since I was a kid last time I had one. But now we are settled and looking for that perfect dobie to add to our home.
We found a dog we think still need to meet her before any decisions will be made. But before we do get any dobie I want to make sure I do plenty of research in a few areas my first one is finding a good food that is in our budget no more then 30 bucks for a big bag. We live in a very small town so most likely we will have to find something online and order it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated the particular dog we are looking at is 6 years old she's on the smaller side for dobies I believe about 65lbs. Her owner has mentioned he has her on Iams right now & he has experimented with a few foods but he says one thing he has noticed about once a month or so she seems to have problems were she gets sick he has taken her to the vets with the suggestion of trying another food. I know when I was a kid my parents fed our dog a lamb n rice food that seem to work for our dog but dont remember what the brand was but anyways any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I cant wait for us to find our forever new friend

You might check you local pet stores, if you have any, as they often carry different dog food brands. But if this dog has been tried on other foods with bad results several times, I would be inclined to keep her on a food that agrees with her. Saying $30 is your price range severely limits your choices also. Stick with what works for her. Love and cherish her while you are lucky enough to have her. Dobermans are so very special. I order a lot from Pet Food Pharmacy as they have the best prices I have found with free shipping if your order is over $50 or something like that. Pay attention and use their promo codes. A lot of companies have special deals for first time bvyers, too.
I'm not sure where you're getting this Doberman from; but you'll want to be sure to budget for vet expenses. Also, keep in mind when looking for the best value in a dog food that you need to also factor in the amount to be fed. Many of the 'lower priced' dog foods require feeding significantly more food than a premimum brand.

Well were going to try our luck and go with this dog we have thought about it the guy is looking for the right fit for his dobie so were going to do a trial run and see if we fit her not us fit her lol....anyways still on my quest for food...i do remember years ago when I owned a rott mix I was told by a dog trainer most rotts have skin probs & to occasionally mix a bit of olive oil into there food lightly coat it wow made a huge difference for our dog stopped her biting at and itching granted this is not the same circumstance but might just try it...anyways we meet our new four legged friend tomorrow will update with pictures once we can my daughter has already made areas in the house just for Abby and has a list of what abby does not like my daughter is 6 & is taking this more serious then most adults I am so proud of my daughter for doing this between her, her dad & I ....thinking having Abby adjusting to our family will be a success granted she is a bit older but no matter the age all dogs deserve a home for plenty of love and attention we cant wait for tomorrow to come 
I don't feed kibble but many people have success with Purina Pro Plan, especially those with sensitive tummys.

The Kirkland dog food from costco is rated 4 star on dogfoodadvisor.com
It is $31.00 for a 40lb bag. In my research it's the best food for your $$$ at less than $1 per pound. The other 4 and 5 star foods are closer to $1.60 per pound.

Welcome, and best of luck. Like mentioned, taking in a 6 year old dog can potentially be pricey, so I would think about that pretty good.
In terms of food, I wouldn't just look at the price of the bag. Keep in mind, that with the better, (often more expensive) foods your dog will eat less. So, as an example, if you find a cheap food, for say 25 a bag, and a better food, for 45 a bag. If your dog eats less with the better food (less fillers, better nutrition, so dog eats less) it could actually work out to be a better deal for you, plus it's a better food.
Here's an example... Our pooch came to us on Iams, which is very low quality, and also very cheap. She ate a ton of it. We switched her to Wellness, which was about twice the price. She started eating just about half as much of the food. Then, factor in that with some of the stores around here, they do something like buy 10 bags of food, get 1 free for the more expensive ones. (not all at once, it can be spread out over time) So, if you look at it like that, even though the food we now use is double the price, we are actually saving money at the end of the year. When I did the math, I think i'm saving something like $35 a year by using the higher quality kibble. $35 is peanuts at the end of the year, but like I said, it's a significantly higher quality, which is going to give your dog more energy, less stinky farts, a nice coat, along with the health benefits.

Well I just goggled the nearest Costco is over 90 miles away from us I guess that is out of the question. But I did speak with a friend of mine and him & his father buy a food from a breeder in the area I forgot to ask what type of dogs he breeds but I do know my friend has from small to large dogs & his father does as well. So that is only about 15 miles from us going to give it try right now she is on Iams which never been a fan of so going to try this other food I believe they said for a 35-40lb bag is right around 38 dollars he said its not anything name brand so he cant remember the name its self but he says the ingredients on it our great I will see if he can give me the list or have him forward me the contact info for this guy & get the info from him.
Abby is already adjusting to us very well she was very anxious after her old owner left he stayed here for close to 2.5 hours to help her adjust to her new home. Then yesterday evening she climbed up on the couch I have never ever allowed a dog on furniture a bed occasionally but never furniture but I knew she was scared of the changes & our couch is very old I know not the best habit to allow but she seem to relax more once she was up there so she has already won us over with her sweetness & I gave in what surprised me more is my husband when we went to bed last night he allowed her to climb in our bed and lay there and pet her while he was going to sleep. I was shocked that is not like my husband Abby has definitely won us over.
When I walked my daughter to the bus this morning and came back in she was just looking at me like where's Teyla even laid by the door waiting for her to walk back in she has already started getting taken to us as we are her. Once I can locate my camera cord will post pics of this beautiful & sweet girl. Thanks all for all your comments.
