Does anyone know of good breeders in California? We want to be able to pick a dog out by seeing their behavior and personailty. We will go anywhere in California to get it, as long as it's a good reputable breeder. Someone was also telling us to go to dog shows and talk to people there. I'm going to search on the internet for dog shows in our area. If someone knows of up coming dog shows in the area, your input would be appreciated. Thank you!

There aren't that many breeders here in CA I'd recommend anymore...a lot of the quality breeders we had in the past have either died, moved to another state, or stopped breeding dobermans. There are only three or four I'd suggest, otherwise I'd recommend looking in another state....I live in the Inland Empire, my last puppy came from Alaska. :)

You might trying contacting Montwood dobermans in San Diego, Darwin dobermans in the bay area, or Irongate dobermans in Truckee. These are people I know who are consistent about health testing, etc. I don't know if they have any upcoming litters, you'd have to ask.

There just was a fairly large doberman entry at shows in Seaside, CA this past weekend. Probably the next large entry will be next month in Grass Valley. There's a show this coming weekend in Lompoc, but the entry is very small, something like only 3 or 4 dobermans.

I had actually looked into contacting Darwin Dobermans. I've seen them pop up. we live fairly close to Truckee, I may contact them as well.
I looked up some dog shows and saw the one in Lompoc. We are very close to Grass Valley, I ddn't see anything on that show. Do you have any suggestions on where I can look? Thanks for your help.

I spoke too soon, the shows in Grass Valley are the weekend of Aug. 31, a doberman specialty show on Aug. 31 (Friday), then 2 all breed shows on Saturday and Sunday. Here's some information about the specialty:

Doberman Pinscher Club of Reno 'FKA'Greater Reno Doberman Pinscher Fanciers
Event No: 2007250401
Nevada County Fairgrounds
11228 McCourtney Rd
Grass Valley, CA

If you just want to get an idea of where and when dogs shows are in any area, the fastest and easiest way to to do a search on this link:
http://www.akc.org/events/search/ You can do searches by state and time period there.

About two weeks before the show date, you can find out actual ring times by going to one of the show superintendants websites. A good one is www.infodog.com . Once you get to the infodog homepage, click on show calendar, then scroll down.

I'm working from memory here, but I believe there's also a 4 day show weekend the weekend after Grass Valley. While show entries are down throughout the state of CA, the best chance you'll find a large entry is during these 3 or 4 day weekends.
