or do I have an addiction problem? I spend hours online tracing Petey's family tree. I love looking at all of his relatives! I've been able to see pictures/drawings all the way back to 1896.....just so amazing to me how far the breed has come! I have access to my fathers entire family tree....and I could care less....what is wrong with me????

I'm not sure, but it's not a bad thing if you are.

Nothing wrong with that. Those of us who show and breed our dogs know all the individuals in our dogs pedigrees too. I have personally met and know every dog for at least the first three generations of my dogs pedigrees.

Now that is totally cool!!! My family does think I am crazy though....as do most of my friends :( I am glad I have this place~you all understand!

Y'all are nuts. Tee-hee. I'm so glad there are others out there. I can't trace pedigrees but I'm nothing but obsessed with my babies. (Humans too.)
Your not nuts.........I do the same thing. You should have seen me when I got Ziris's wagon wheel pedigree. I'm going to have to contact her, because some of the titles were left off, but it is so neat to go that far back.
I think tracing the pedigree is pretty cool. I would love to see pictures of the older dogs in Rocks ancestry. It would be like watching the breed develop in reverse. I think your only as crazy as the rest of us!
I love tracing Indy's ancestry. It's so neat to see where they come from, especially when you see names of dogs that you've read about, only to find out that your dog is related to them. Very cool!
I don't know too much about Isabelle's pedigree, but ask me anything about McLean's & I know it all. . .actually now that I think about it I know exactly where McLean's papers but I don't know where Isabelle's are. Hummmmm. . . now you all have me thinking.
LOL! My wife thinks I lost what little I had left of my mind the day I got interested in Dobes. Hmmm, been about two years now.
I don't think you are crazy. One day at work I decided to trace Bumpy's pedigree from his papers to find out that his great grandfather was one of the biggest Dobermans ever to come out of Europe. Now this didn't really please me because he was probably breed for size which I know is wrong, but at least I know why Bumpy is as big as he is. It is interesting to see what titles their relatives have, etc. I had to stop the madness because I had work to do, but now you are giving me ideas......lol......we are all crazy :)
Without going into great detail. How would one trace the pedigree of one's dog. It sounds like it would be very interesting to do.

Petey is a Euro Dobie.....every one of his relatives is on many different websites.....I just pump a name in to Google and up comes so much info! I'm soooooo loving seeing where he came from! Here is his Grandpa on his fathers side: http://www.wantijdobermann.nl/jivago.htm and then I just go back from there! Most of Petey's lines were all working dogs....and across the board have SchH I to III or the European equivalent titles, so they are easy to find when doing searches.

I think we are all a little crazy and I also think that that is absolutely fine!!!

Carol, you've set me off now, I'm going to try and trace some of Tia's relatives.

Well if you're crazy, then I am too! I did the same thing with Red's pedigree. I typed it all out and spent hours on it. I made it so it has DobeQuest links to each dog, going back 5 generations. The breeder even used what I created to give to the rest of the people who bought puppies from that litter!

I received an AKC one when I registered him, but I like mine better :) I traced his line all the way back to Germany and the Netherlands.
I traced one of Rocks ancestors back to some website that was in German. I don't know if the dog came from Germany but that was pretty cool. I wish I knew what the webpage said to find out about the dog.
Ok.....now I know I'm normal!

There is nothing crazy about wanting to know about your dogs pedigree. Every good breeder does, it's just part of planning and creating a quality litter. There isn't anyone out there who is seriously into showing or breeding dogs that doesn't have vast knowledge of not only their own dog's pedigrees, but of most dog's pedigrees in their breed.
