luna has not really been very affectionate with us since the week after she came home. that first week she would come up to snuggle with us whenever she was tired. but since then she hasn't really done that. now she's six and a half months old and she bolts almost everytime we go to pet her (like it's a game and she wants us to play chase with her). she loves to be near us and she always stays close to us, even at the dog park. sometimes she will come up to us for petting, but most of the time we have to go to her for petting (and she really seems to enjoy it). is this her "teenage" behavior or is this just her personality or are we doing something wrong?

Petey is just starting to cuddle....has been aloof since day one, people are for playing and his blankie is for cuddling....well that is changing...thankfully! I'm sure she will be fine, and velcroed to you again!

Nike was the same way when she was real young (it was very upsetting to me).. she is just starting to follow me around and get cuddly altho she's still not up my butt.

thanks, carol. that's encouraging.

and yea, lyngr, it's a little disheartening sometimes.

luna already does the following around and she is always very happy to see us (even if we step out of the room for a few minutes) and to play with us, but she's just not the affectionate bunny i thought she would be. maybe she'll grow out of it. she'll still be my special bunny, though! (that's one of the many nicknames i have for her! - it's b/c she looks like a bunny with her ear posts)

i guess its a phase, stella is older and refuses to even be in another room than me, she follows me around sits under the computer desk, sits on the couch, she even lays on the floor in front of the shower, and of course if i ever try to cook anythings she is faithfully there in the kitchen, although i believe her reasons for being in the kitchen are not affection...

Yes....I've been upset about this too....my two Weims were all over me 24/7, followed me everywhere, jumped in bed to snuggle the second hubby got up, if I sat on the couch they were right there, and I miss them so much, and then I get Petey, and he just wanted to play and nip 24/7 if he was any where near me, no petting what so ever. I'd say this has changed in the last two weeks. He is loving being pet....and lots of kisses from him and me!!! He has been leaning on me too and the last few days he is starting to lay on my lap while on the couch and in the car twice this week, he has snuggled on my lap when I was in the back seat with him! He has been following me room to room for a couple of months, which was good for keeping him out of trouble and housebreaking.

One of our puppies is like that with me. Hubby's pup Rayna. She seems to love to snuggle only at night when the house calms down. She thinks she'll miss something. I guess. Luna, is prob feeling the same. She needs to do her property rounds to protect you Mom. No time for "Baby" stuff, She's a big dog now you know! lol

Sounds like a phase. Indy did that too when he was younger. I wondered if he'd ever be affectionate like the other dobes I'd been around and like my Abby is. Well, slowly but surely, as he got older, he became more affectionate and a snuggle bug. However, now he's becoming more independent and doesn't follow me all over like he used to, which bums me out. And my Abby is getting too old to follow me, so I am all alone :(

Spirit only snuggles on his terms.. When he is ready to go to bed.. he goes and lays down and does not want anyone near him.. Now if I get on the bed and ask him to cuddle he will get excited and jump up and lay down with me for a few minutes but never to sleep with.. he is just more independent than the girls..

I'm thinking it's because she's still a pup. A lot of them are more interested in playing and getting into things than cuddling when they're youngsters. Don't worry about it. She'll calm down one of these days and start to cuddle. Skyler has her days when she is not very cuddly. Maybe it's a female thing. I've heard that they can be that way, more independent than males.

******* was not very affectionate either. She will soon be eleven months and has just started to be very cuddly. I would just say she is a little independent.

Both Titus and Jada were like that at first. Not anymore. I call them my snuggle bugs. They both are very loving and just love to be right next to us. Give it time. She too will be a loving snuggle bug :)
